Jane's Mum (90 years old, about 5 stone, extreme dementia) was taken into hospital yesterday, in pain, with no way of establishing why.
Jane raced home of course to be with her.
It appears likely that a haematoma on her Mum's leg is infected again.
They feel that she is too frail to have IV anti biotics and pain relief, so are trying patches and oral.
Hopefully she will quickly be comfortable again, and will be back in the Care Home tonight.
My brother's Mum in law is 90, still driving and very physically and mentally astute.
I would happily live to 120 if I could be guaranteed to be like the latter, but frankly, a pillow over my head seems preferable to the former.
Old age is a git!

I'll kill myself before I ever get to the state where my Dad was when he died. It's the easiest thing in the world for a boater to go to sleep peacefully and quietly using CO from the stove.

I've said all along, instead of a bloody referendum on leaving the EU, we SHOULD have had one on Euthanasia - voluntary AND passive (though the latter would need assessing to protect the vulnerable).
My mum made me promise to hold a pillow - should she have as many bad strokes as her mother did... I just hope to god, I never have to come good on that promise.
A friend who died of Motor Neurone disease took his family down with him... truly awful and his surviving widow is still traumatised by it... 4 years on.

The Witch went to a funeral today, one of her uncles. She visited him 2 months ago. When she came back she said I was right to encourage her to come and walk the Pennine Way next year (Aug-Nov) before it's too late. Sometimes when I go to the loo in my bus - it's a tiny room at the back - I wonder what it would be like if a truck hit the back of the bus whilst I was standing there... do you know or feel anything if you just get splattered like a bug on the windscreen?

I think that's wrong, putting that kind of burden on someone else. One of my wife's sisters was kept at home to look after her parents, as whenever she thought of leaving her mother would say what if something happened to them and she wasn't there to help? So that if something did happen, and she was away, she would be made to feel guilty. And so she ended up being a miserable, lonely old spinster.

Sorry but I think the best course of action for Jane’s mum is IV pain relief and hang the consequences. My mum is having her 95th birthday in Feb, she still drives, occasionally. Still goes to the local shops but in the last couple of years her bicycle has given way to a mobility scooter. I ve just got her a new computer as her Win XP machine was out of the arc and she now has to get to grips with Win 10. But physically she is getting somewhat frail. Which I think is allowed at 95! i just hope I take after her, not after my dad who died aged 65 (me+4 years!)

Life speeds past at an alarming rate. At the other end of the scale I just got a reminder today from my daughter to turn our granddaughters car seat into the 'booster' seat mode for 18kg 4 years old and above. It doesn't seem like five minutes since she was born.
