I recently joined an online discussion group. DISQUS .COM and I posted my opinion to the gun laws over there Got a response that only countries with no liberties and civil freedoms etc do not have private gun ownership We have private gun ownership in the UK only we have strong background checks meaning they get into the wrong hands less often. I've had this discussion with a few Americans and it always seems to surprise them that we can keep guns in the house. And no hand guns since 1997 which means its difficult to keep it concealed. I'm aware we have private gun ownership in this country but as you said under very stringent conditions and that is nothing like the private ownership in the States where you can walk into Wal-Mart and buy an assault rifle, in fact just recently somebody posted about Elon Musk who sold 2.5 million pounds worth of flame throwers in 24hrs could only happen in the States Phil

I knew you was aware but was trying, rather unsuccessfully, to make the point that most Americans I speak to are unaware of the fact.

You are doing irony, right? No, just making my point pretty poorly. When I've had this discussion in America and made the point about hand guns it always comes back to self defence. I point out that an unconcealed weapon is much better for this purpose. Pro active self defence if you like. I don't think the viewpoint in the states will ever change and taking into account our joint history they will certainly never listen to us Brits anyway!

It appears to me that the NRA and Trump do not between them have the brain power to work out that the 'right to bear arms' does not mean the right to bear assault rifles, or illegally modified weapons.
Ok carry a gun if you must but that doesn't extend to carrying any type of weapon you like.

It is sad but unfortunately history is destined to keep on repeating itself. Gun ownership is a way of life in the US and while it may seem strange to us, I'm sure lots of things we do are strange to them. Yes but Morris dancing and boating along muddy ditches never killed anyone, however well deserved !!!They get the gun culture they deserve I'm afraid. there you are ..... corrected that for you

the pro-gun movement in the US believes that guns are essential for self-protection....... then why were all the pupils at the school not carrying guns, and why didn't they respond in kind? Obviously this is all their fault for being ill-equipped and untrained. Give 'em guns at birth is what I say.
............... oh, and the great leader stressed that the cause of the shooting was mental illness, nothing to do with guns apparently.

Gloves = no fingerprints left on the weapon. There's no flies on her!

Too late, it's already been said in the US that if the teachers were all armed and practised weekly they could have shot him. Presumably after he had shot 'only' a few kids. So I guess teaching job adverts will soon be requiring a degree in the subject taught and a 0.44 Magnum. Oh to live in the states...........

Humanity and common sense has been replaced by faith in the system. Follow the rules and you can't be blamed. Seems like everyone knew he was dangerous and nobody did a thing.
