Isn't that the mentality of Premier Inns?
"Stuff what customers think, we'll do as we like"
That's coincidentally what Ratners thought too.

Rog Well not quite a valid comparison, Ratner very publicly said the stuff their shop sells was rubbish (paraphrased). That is what cost him the company. Whitbread haven't actually publicly come out and said 'our premier Inn's are cheap but they are rubbish' Of course I agree all of this may be a bit of an own goal but I would wager it will blow over till the next 'social media fuelled news item' comes along. ed - cross post with Kris.

The part about not refunding in my eyes, is justified by them, you choose the cheapest option then you have no right to shout off online.
The part about not letting in the homeless to use a room that has been paid for, is a bit shit and they should have a look at themselves, any damage or theft, if there was any of course, would be covered by the card ued to book the room, so no problem.
Although i imagine they will wiggle out of it by stating rooms are non transferable.

The similarity with Ratners, in my view, is that both treat their customer's views with contempt.
Ratner thought his customers 'too thick' to listen and understand his comments. Customers abandoned the company overnight.
Premier believe they can do as they wish and their customers will just keep coming.
I hope the company is equally hammered.
Refund the money, or make a substantial donation to homeless charities, is acceptable.
To keep the money and turn away occupants isn't in my opinion.

Now I have stayed in them and all of their competitors and this store out for me.
"Premier Inn has since explained that they are unable to offer rooms to people without proper identification checks."
Now, is it just me but I'm positive I have never shown any I.d

Business is business. But you can show 'compassion' whilst still running a successful business. Maybe an offer to make a donation to a homeless charity would of headed of the bad publicity? I think the Premier Inn model of business probably doesn't allow this sort of independent thinking though. Just like the Church of England - most of the churches are locked these days, so much for 'Christianity'. Are any mosques housing the 'homeless'? Sort of, seen this on the local news a couple of times. www.as-suffa.org/outreach/homeless/birmingham/

Terms and conditions, no refunds unless premium paid, fair enough. Not letting the homeless use unused paid for rooms and food, in this weather, they are heartless grasping bastards. The story is spreading fast, already seen and shared on Facebook.

Personally I think this is all a bit of a red herring- the solution to homelessness is not a night in a Travel Inn. I mentioned a few days ago that I have been homeless myself. It was a long time ago now and although it was difficult at the time, it was a very formative experience. One thing I didn't- couldn't- give priority to was personal hygiene and freshly laundered clothes- shoplifting food and finding still-lit hastily discarded fags at bus stops took far greater priority. I wouldn't blame Premier Inns for not wanting me in one of their establishments at the time.
I have stayed in Premier Inns on numerous occasions since then, and given the choice of one of those or a five star hotel (and I've stayed in loads of those when I did the roadshow work) I'd choose the Premier Inn.

That is why I mentioned a donation to a homeless charity earlier as a possible solution.

The story is spreading fast, already seen and shared on Facebook. If the customers couldn’t get there, perhaps the staff were having similar issues? So not filling the rooms with homeless, NHS staff etc could have been due to staffing issues? Just saying.....

Just like all the wealthy people who own mansions along the River Thames and in the Cotswolds, all with empty rooms. Premier Inns are no worse than everyone else. I presume you've offered a local homeless person / family use of your narrow boat whilst its sat there vacant for 8 months or so of the year?
Or is it just more of your 'piss & wind' blustering?
