What a surprise they got what they wanted, price increases for wide boats. They have definately left the door open for charging more for boats without a home mooring as well. It means a 25% increase for me personally. I'll be paying around £2k per year more. 20% increase. Actually maybe not as with any luck will be getting off the slum ditches before too long .

It wouldn't be so bad if you thought the extra was going to go on maintenance, but it won't it will go on corporate costs. ps what about the loss of half the prompt payment discount?

It's not clear if the removal of the discount also applies to moorings...

You know they will be saying they can spend the extra on infrastructure... Just like everything in this world though, people will moan and groan, tweet, write blogs, maybe a march or two, then pay, just like council tax, petrol, car tax....

And I don't believe increasing the license fee a little bit will make any difference to the vast numbers of wide beams turning up in high rental areas. The only thing which could possibly make any difference is a legislation change or some sort of slum clearance. I imagine policy makers with 100 times more clout than CRT will sort it at some point because its getting a bit too busy lately. Bound to happen because its so cheap.

Why only 20%, they are almost twice as wide. It's not fair.

The problem for wide boat boaters is not so much the now, but what the future could hold. Once the principle of charging by length and width is established, which it now is, it gives CRT the where with all to load the charges for width disproportionately thereby increasing revenue.

On the face of it they have accepted that wide boats don't get double the benefit so that's why is is only 20% more.
I agree totally that the extra money should be put aside to pay towards A) a Birmingham bypass B) to pay for dredging weed clearing and fixing 1r moorings on wide canals only.

In the long run, these changes will benefit all boaters. Dredging, and improved maintenance to offside vegetation will now be a huge factor, and is likely to cost CRT a hefty price long term. Changes-price hikes like this will need to be justified by Parry. As for the late payment charge that by magic suddenly became an early payment discount, well, good con. Increase to all licences by stealth.

As I remember it (and my memory is not what it once was) the prompt payment discount has been applicable for a long time. I seem to think it has been applicable since the 90s when I started paying BW for cruising licenses. During that time there was some chatter about applying a late payment penalty and I'm not sure if it ever happened but as far as I am aware it was a completely different thing to the already existing prompt payment discount.
I know what you mean though and I think you are right that its a bit scammy to rearrange things like this but at the end of the day CRT do -apparently- need money. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't ? Perhaps ?

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't ? Perhaps ? They domt need more money, they need to stop wasting money. There are at least three layers of cart managment that are not needed. That would be a good start. Also being more publicly accountable for what they do with the money would be good.
