So a sheep farmer is supposedly killing his own sheep and lambs? Why would they? Dead sheep tell no tales ?

What you describe Patty sounds like human intervention rather than animal. Patty mentioned a farmer that was already on the 'watch this one' list. Any more on him? Not so far ...but I'll see more next time I go over, maybe a coffee n chat is a plan to action in the local hotel cos I'm already on gossip terms in there.....

Well, keep us posted about it if you find out any more. Did you see my 5th photo (from my link)? Birds with heads cut off suggest to me the action of a gamekeeper/farmer.

As to sheep farmers killing birds the RSPCA guy told me its the black carrion eaters they don't like and they bait the dead sheep with poison...but that wouldn't be the birds over the Worm as they are insect/worm eaters.. I don't think those birds are the farmer, doesn't fit with the facts.... be interesting to know..I guess could be Natural Disaster following the big freeze or even avian flu though we did not get snow and unless someone examines the birds, the flu theory will never be proved...Im hoping the nice RSPCA man will contact.

I've seen Magpies strung up like that in trees when I used to roam in the woods as a child..Gamekeepers apparently....my parents used to scare me with stories about the dead birds to discourage my roaming solo.

I recall and old game keeper telling me about how he found a congregation of dead Golden Plover on the downs near Avebury. It transpired, (after a post mortem by a local vet), that the birds had been electrocuted, maybe by a ground lightning strike. Perhaps that's what has occurred in Patty's mystery. After a quick Google, I found this article......... LINK to something similiar around Plymouth.

How does the lightening strike decapitate all the birds?
Dead can be a natural occurence, but dead and decaptitated suggests something else don't you think?

Rog A good friend of mine survived a helicopter crash in Scotland years ago, as he was pulling himself out of the wreckage he was struck by lightning, and it blew all his fingernails off. Could be the electrical charge entered the birds through their feet, and exited through their heads. Incidentally, I did ask Mike if he'd done his lottery ticket for that night....Lucky bar steward or what ?

dogless: "How does the lightening strike decapitate all the birds?" Stumpy: "A good friend of mine survived a helicopter crash in Scotland years ago" naughtyfox put 2 and 2 together and comes up with: the birds Patty saw were flying in a flock, got hit by lightning, and fell to Earth at the same time a helicopter happened to be passing below them, thus explaining the decapitations. www.wired.com/2016/08/lightning-can-kill-300-reindeer-one-strike/

Actually that'll have to be tomorrow as I've overdone stuff again to-day and Im shattered...just noticed front wall beginning to fall down so I guess better have a go at botching that back together....how difficult can it be?.. Ive lugged another 8 bags topsoil to rebuild bank, now have paint n polyfilla to disguise kitchen bits and Ive carried 5x 25kg bags coal from front porch to bin so that i can empty front porch....Ive also removed all the sticky tape I put on the carpets(don't ask that wasn't one of my better thoughts)...trouble is room stinks as stuff used was horrible. Plus trip to tip.
