Spotted on twitter yesterday a boater had his boat removed as he had no licence or BSS. Now spotted a fundraiser for him to try and get him a new boat.. www.youcaring.com/slowtony-1146108I dont know the full facts, but i am not sure getting him a new boat is the right thing to do. Does anyone else have any further details?

Not aware of the full details but the WHH Bantam tug indicates it is a true story.
The only question I would have is whether it is up to CRT to deal with homeless people or is it up to local authorities.
A boat like that with no license will end up being a cost to license payers. It would seem more sensible to me if the cost of dealing with this sort of thing fell on local authorities.
Or maybe let the cut fill up with unlicensed boats and not worry about it.

It would probably have helped had the organiser provided even brief details of what has happened here.

I don't particularly give a shit about the details on this one. What boils my piss is the fact he is 67 years old, and now fuckin homeless. It matters little whether the Trust are a housing association or not, the humanity factor should have engaged in some twats brain cell and made preparation for the guy to be in a bed before disgustingly kicking the poor sod onto the towpath.

They didn't know, and if they had known, he would definitely have got help.

How does a section 8 work, they write and tell you on such a day they will be coming to take your boat, they just turn up and take your boat?

Ok so more details come out.
Obviously CRT are a housing association of a sort by default as it is pretty easy to get a boat and live on it on the canals regardless of whether it is licensed. That's just a simple fact - its not disputable.
I know little about this but I would hope that there was some sort of communication between them (CRT) and a local authority who would be able to provide some sort of assistance in this type of situation.
Is it pertinent to ask if the individual mentioned had traveled from another country to get here ?

No, you unsocked sandal-wearing lefty, in this world you cannot just take things that you fancy without having to pay for them, and expect to get away with it. It matters not if you are 67 (which is not old these days, only 6 years older than me) or 17. If you don’t pay for your land-based home, you lose it. End of. Same applies to floating homes. If you want to live in some utopia where everything is free I suggest you emigrate there. Oh wait a minute, such a place doesn’t exist. I wonder why?
