I've sold my boat so if anyone sees nb Makhno on their travels and thinks "It's that cunt Sabcat, I'm gonna put his windows through" you've missed your chance

Maybe new owner needs to change name of vessel. Usually its bad luck but the rule may possibly not apply ?

My old dear's not doing so great at the whole living on her own thing since my dad died so we've sold the boat, her place and bought somewhere with an annex for keeping old ladies in. Never really imagined coming off the cut tbh but it's either that or watch her go downhill and end up in a home and that's not happening so...

Well you may be a cloud-headed mad anarchist but at least you have a heart! Good on you for looking out for your mum. It is a difficult time Iām sure. My mum is 95 and still compus mentis and in her own home, but she is getting a pretty frail. What with us living 450 miles away and my only sibling being very disabled, I am starting to feel the guilt.

Sorry - just being flippant - but I seem to remember you have a robust sense of humour. And that's a handy thing to have on TB. Nobody here ever means any ill.
That's a very nice thing to do, to look after your mother (did I get that right?). My mum was a right pain in the wotsit but I did go to visit her as often as I could before she snuffit, being a regular client with Ryanair Tampere - Stansted between 2002 - 2008 (she lived just half an hour from Stansted).
If you keep your oar in with the 'canals community' then, who knows, you may be able to borrow someone's boat for a holiday, or take it from A to B for them. If I see your old boat, happy to take pics and send them on to you.

I don't think there should be guilt. We didn't have children so that they could look after us later. Our kids are free to live their own lives. We had the pleasure of them when they were little. I'm happy enough that they are still in contact with me. But I want to enjoy my senility in style! Visiting my daughter tomorrow - taking her a box of groceries to help her out. Hold on... shouldn't it be the other way around by now??!!

We never get time back that is not spent with our family. What you've done is really good...all the best..and i admire you for taking it on. I looked after both of my parents and have some wonderful memories....whether any of mine will do the same for me is questionable. Your mum is lucky to have you...keep posting.

It was my choice to do all i did and it helped me as much as them.

I've had a properly busy 12 months with work and life in general. I banned myself from the other place. I just couldn't be doing with the moderation policies there. Not even looked at it since the day I went and I never will again. This place seemed like a good idea and I googled something boat related today and this popped up in the results and it pleased me no end to see that it's not only still here but thriving.
