Chorleys a bit of a strange place, canal skirts it, its not a place im particularly fond of but theres a good market on Saturday and plenty of charity shops to browse ( plus a Wetherspoons right in the centre for you whilst the missus is browsing bargainsπ) You'll enjoy Botany Bay, boozer theres a bit 'old style' local pub for local people type of place.π
If you're not busy Sunday and can make it to Top Lock Weeton after Botany bay, thats a nice place, or wherever you fancy Im at a loose end Sunday day as Im working the night so would be great come over & have a meet up if you fancy, buy you a pint / share a lunch, chat etc π
Ill pm my number if you fancy a lunchtime get together ( not in a gay, public toilets meet-up way!!!!π±)

IIRC There was an aircraft museum at Botany Bay. Im not aware of that?? Last time i went it was like an antiquet'y market place but that was about 15 years ago, theres a boatyard full of rusting old relics on canal. last time I went in Botany Bay pub was with my ex about 2.5 years ago....they couldnt believe a woman could have 5 fingers on each hand and 5 toes on each foot plus she went were she was looking not crosseyed / lazyeyed!! ...The hills definately have eyes over that way!!π³

I suppose the "must-do" thing in Chorley is to find somewhere that serves a decent bowl of Lancashire hot-pot.

Not yet, but the good ship Ellis will be bringing you here, and you'll want to know all the intimate details too. Where do you meet up with Ellis, is it Shipley? Rog Well i just went to check up train ticket...then realised cannot get to train ticket as son has emptied his long wheel base van contents into the cottage and cannot access any drawer... So Im not sure where I'm going to....

I remember driving past as a nipper years ago, and there was a fuselage of an old Wessex Whirlwind, and a Jet Provost outside.

Chorley: St Mary's church, 8 bells, practice night Wednesdays, and ringing for Sunday Service on... err... Sunday. Why not hang round the tower door Sunday morning and ask if you can watch. I rang there last June and they are a nice friendly bunch.
From The Lock & Quay canalside pub, if you cross the motorway on the bridge and walk uphill to the roundabout and then head South, there's a Spar grocery shop after the third street on the right (it's also there if you don't do that!).
There's Outdoor Land, a camping/hiking shop in the centre of town, if you're after a pair of Bridgedale socks or a Swiss Army penknife.
Astley Hall (The hall is now owned by the town and is known as Astley Hall Museum and Art Gallery) - walk there via Astley Park?
Jump on a train and go and visit andyberg? (change at Preston).

Not necessarily - from Riley Green (between WheMickey & Blackburn) we walked up to Hoghton Tower (which now seems to be open to the public in 2018) and on its North-Western side in the distance was a town and I guessed correctly that it was Preston. 'Above' that in the far distance was a tower.... the Blackpool Tower! We confirmed this with a local. From Hoghton Tower we followed the wall round to the North and East and dropped down over the railway line which we followed to the River Darwen which here runs in a gorge - after a while you can turn sharpish right, go up the bank and find a track which takes you back towards The Royal Oak pub and the A675 back to the canal/Riley Green. Hoghton Bottoms - the River Darwen, which flows from the centre of Blackburn. Pleasington - Bamber Bridge (Blackburn - Preston) railway bridge. ffs - w h e e l t o n was changed to whemickey !
