Well life still in limbo for me awaiting exchange of contracts on house, hopefully things will change in the next week or two. Been looking at boats online and came across this one which initially I was thinking of viewing but have now decided against www.abnb.co.uk/boat_pages/3295web/3295abnb.php?BoatID=3295I'm interested in others thoughts about the boat as a bit of a check against my thoughts. Once some thoughts are stated I'll share my thoughts about why I decided against, and the conversation might lead to me having some questions about other boats I'm interested in viewing. Mainly interested in practicalities rather than what the boat looks like.

I would say it's 20k overpriced for a boat of that age and spec.
Personally, the Vetus engine and cross bed would put me off, but otherwise I would say it's a nice enough boat.
I like the diesel genny.

My concern about the genny was how noisy it might be along with do I really need one.

I agree with Bill that it's about 20k overpriced.

Every boat I look at on the internet at the moment seems at least 10k overpriced but they seem to sell. Even the less old boats which don't look like they have been cared for.

How about Phil's boat? Just a thought. I think it is too long for where I might hope to base myself in a year or two.

Looks very clean, doubt they live aboard so maybe they are basing the value on that, says it has air conditioning?
Knock them down, doubt they will reduce it by 20k though.

Cut a bit off?
As for the other boat (first post), you'll get what you paid for it when it's time to sell, so you can't lose. (?!)

As for the other boat (first post), Not sure what you mean but if referring to another boat not in this thread, that is long gone. Boat in this thread seems a bit 'different' to say you can't loose.

says it has air conditioning? The Mutt will probably appreciate the aircon, which was a bit of an attraction for me, but cost of maintaining/running and safety/noise (especially via genny) is something that I'm not sure about. Might be cheaper to 'farm' Mutt out on occasional days if heat on boat gets unbearable...

Wet towel for mutt to lie on works..
Can count the number of days on one hand i had wished i had air conditioning on the boat, we just dont get the heat, and when it does get too hot, i go the pub.

I meant the boat in this post, yes. Looks clean & tidy. If, as you say, boats are selling like hot cakes, then you can't go wrong buying something like this (?). That green armchair has to go to the skip. Is there a stove? Central heating is a bit sterile and boring, and always going wrong. How many boats called 'Poppy'? You'd have to change the name to something like 'Black Lung' Kitchen sink looks OK BUT water will get splashed and drop onto the floor to its right. I like that the loo + shower are in their own little room, something to walk round. You have to walk through the bedroom with muddy boots to make yourself a cup of tea whilst on the move. Ask how much the previous owners paid for it (are they the original owners?). Ask for a list of faults, and, of course, the hull - is it OK? Any shower curtain? Bath is weird - how can you lie in that? It says 'Crick' on the side, so looks like a 'posh' boat. Reason for sale elderly couple had enough of boating? (= genuine sale). Side hatch = good! If I had £64,000 spare and was looking for a boat, I might say Yes to this one. It could be that a lot of money has gone into it, and I think it looks stylish enough, and the colour is OK. But then it's got one of those daft back ends (NOT cruiser stern) so you will drop into the canal and there's no room for a friend to stand beside you.

That is fine for when you are there. Does it still work for being away for eight hours plus? (Mutt would be let out by 'someone' during that time and she is lazy enough to have to be woken up to go out for a pee!).
