So, if I understand this right, the BSS fail was because there was not enough gas in the bottle for the examiner to check the gas system? If there was a spare bottle, could the examiner not have changed it over himself? No spare. It was replaced with my spare! I want to shop him, the owner doesn't. Missed insecure battery interlinks and has demanded extra ventilation despite it being advisory. The boat in question has had more than a couple of BSS examinations prior to this one.... Bit late now but Graham Freeman did my BSS and he seemed sensible and he's based in Northampton.

My man is Stuart Holmes from Peterborough Boating Centre, again, I didn't get a chance to make a recommendation!

But do you now have to have a re-test by the same BSS man?

But do you now have to have a re-test by the same BSS man? Yes, it has been organised and despite the vandalism that will take place to the doors (against my advice!) It will pass with no further problems.

Anyway (bed in a moment)... our BSS was done by Richard Fee (from beside Apperley Marina) and I thought he was OK in our case... when our next BSS comes in March 2020 we should have no fear because the obligatory work (live gas pipe open end secured only by valve + starter battery strap) has been done, and all of the recommended work has been done. I can't think of anything the next BSS man can catch us out on (although I bet they make things up every year just so they can).
Ventilation - who cares if you suffocate yourself? And we have travelled often to the boat via Manchester Airport yet they don't say don't fly to Manchester as a plane caught fire there once, do they? And they don't care about CRT raising the licence fee so you can only afford bread now to eat, and die of malnutrition, do they?

why is the warning notice attached to the disconnected bottle? Yeah - what danger? And not use what? The bottle top with the valve opened a bit to put a frying pan on? foxy's on the ball . as he realised, the label only seems to apply to a bottle, not the system.

I don't even understand it. It might be dangerous if you lift the bottle and drop it on your toe? Man's a plonker. I removed it from the non leaking system and dumped it on the mooring where an empty bottle with an incorrectly attached warning notice rightly belongs. not very environmentally friendly.

Serious point here: there's Tripadvisor to tell you about restaurants and B&Bs, and airlinequality.com to tell you about plane companies - is there an equivalent for the BSS inspectors? If not, why not? There certainly should be! Let them fight for their money!

If not, why not? There certainly should be! Let them fight for their money! Sadly not. When you find a good un it pays to keep hold of them. There are plenty of shit ones to choose from. CWDF is littered with the same inaccurate advice from people who shouldn't be let loose at a keyboard - ventilation being a major case in point. Stabby was questioning how safe clear bowls for 296 CAV filter heads are, the answer is a fucking site safer than the inaccurate and poorly applied advice given by so called (and often self elected) experts on the subject

You may wish to get yer meds checked again you were the one who said you 'dumped' the empty bottle 'on the mooring', whatever that means. ............ to me it sounds like you dumped the empty bottle on the mooring, although it is not clear if that was on the bank or in the cut. Either way it would not be a praiseworthy action. PS .............. met a neighbour today (for the first time) who was washing his Ducati 1199. Nice machine!

Gas bottles are too expensive to come by (unless you are a pikey) to be littering the countryside with willy nilly. It was of course a turn of phrase rather than a bold statement of fact - apologies for any confusion I may have caused. Likewise my flippant meds remark 🍻👍 While modern superbikes are incredible feats of engineering they make my back ache and my arse uncomfortable just looking at them!

Perhaps there should be a BSS-inspectors thread started on Thunderboat? Names in alphabetical order and users' comments below the names. What's not to like?
