I haven't got a Goole Tide Book for this year , John, so I'm working off Hull times for Goole, but I reckon that end of FTT on Sunday morning is going to be around 0500 hrs, so another alternative is pen out into the river then, run down to Blacktoft and hang a bit on there, or drop the hook in the middle of the river near Blacktoft Reach Light and get Taff off on Blacktoft just before Flood, which should start to run up a bit there by around 1130 - 1145 hrs. As soon as Taff's finished doing whatever he needs to do you can get underway, round Apex and off up the Trent with all of the Flood, such as it'll be, under you all the way up to wherever you decide to head for that night, . . HW and dropping slack should be around 1615 - 1630 at Stockwith if you fancy going in there. Thanks Tony ...... Just talked it through with Peter and we will take your advice on that ...... I now have a bridge lift and Ocean lock booked for 0430. Probably go for anchoring off Blacktoft reach light and then run up to Keadby on the last of the flood. Thanks for all the information and help Cheers

Arriving at the boat in a few minutes. Woofer will have missed us (let’s hope no one called the RSPCA - dog trapped in hot boat etc.) I think we will stick to plan b which is up the T&M, Mac, Marple (if opened) and onto the Hud narrow. If the Pennines subsequently run out of water we can always go back via the Trent.

Oh no!
We were hit by a Hudson on Sunday and now we've got you heading our way.

That'll be a good trick if you can do it, . . . the Trent was on the other side of the Pennines on the last occasion I crossed them by boat, via the Leeds & Liverpool.

Gargrave pound low again right this moment. May fill again when Bank Newton Locks open. Two people have told me CRT have said the L&L will close 29th July from Gargrave to Wigan if it do not rain. Nothing on CRT's Notices internet pages though.

After crossing the Pennines on the Huddersfield narrow, from the Marple side, one is on the east side of the Pennines. I could lend you a map if it would help! There doesn’t seem to be a specific issue with the Huddersfield narrow - any more than usual, anyway. It is the L&L that seems to have a problem.

Ten out of ten for blind, unreasoning optimism, . . do you really think that Parry's 'management team' won't be able to come up with a way of closing that down completely in the next few days. Just think of the scope they've got there, . . all those ill-maintained locks either end of all those short pounds that are so full-up (with mud) that they'll barely hold more than a couple of lockfull's of water !

I’m basing my blind optimism on the latest “reservoir watch” data which shows the Hud narrow holdings at 65% compared to a historical low of 19.5% in 2013. I’m sure we will find low /empty pounds but that is normal for that canal, for the reasons you mention. We have the tunnel booked for 20th so not that long to go. I’m just hoping we can bypass all the queues on the Cheshire locks and go via the Mac/marple, otherwise it’s going to be a rush.

Sorry if moving boats cause you offence, I realise you would be much happier if all other boats remained stationary. But anyway “rush” in this context doesn’t mean high speed. Our boat has pretty much one speed in shallow canals. By ”rush” I mean needing to put in long cruising days. Though I’m sure you will struggle with that concept.

The Huddersfield Narrow is a nice canal, we've done it both directions once each time. No issues with our 1'11" draught. However, the summit is high (42 locks up from Huddersfield) and I have wondered how they can keep it watered. Pissing in the shower helps to keep the water level up.

I have no problem with moving boats, but I'm sick and tired of boats who come out for the weekend and speed along completely not caring that they are disrupting everybody else. The same thing happens when they go for their summer holidays. So enjoy your summer dash around the network.

Of course your blind prejudice will confirm to you that any boat seen speeding must be out for the weekend. But then you are quite thick. There are selfish marina dwellers just as there are selfish live aboards and selfish CCers. Its so sad that your life is so full of hate.

No I see the same boats doing it again and again and I know where they moor . Unlike you I don't make assumptions based on nothing but my own imagination. As I say enjoy your dash around the network. Although I must admit speeding cyclists are a bigger issue where I'm moored at the moment.
