You are of course correct. My only defence is that I didn't go to proper school. I sorta went 'proper school'..All gurls High School but my grammar ain't wot it should be.....pre that I attended private school for 2 years but the demon fearsome headmistress who believed in whacking those who couldn't grasp the 3 r's with a ruler didn't manage to install much in the way of punctuation/use of English into my brain. What I don't know I make up... Instill, not install.

The purpose of language is to be able to communicate ideas. However inaccurate, if the meaning is clear and unambiguous, the rest is unimportant in my view. I was always taught it was highly impolite to critique or correct another's writing. I enjoy the banter on here on the subject as a sort of antidote to CWDF, but I wouldn't want anyone to be reluctant to post because of it. Been quite a few new members in the last couple of days, which is great to see Rog

Careful, you're exposing your fantasies.
Must be as a result of getting so much fresh air to your gorgeous legs.
Actually it was my sainted old Mum (not that abused me in a cupboard).
She was very keen on expanding our vocabulary (six kids) promoting and expanding our reading, and encouraging us to speak correctly.
Coming from a pit estate in the Barnsley area, this was unusual and caused us a bit of 'stick' amongst our contemporaries.
Happy days.

Any time I myself mention spelling or punctuation it is for a giggle but I suppose it can seem rude to new members. I hope it doesn't put people off. I've always had perfect spelling so I don't know what its like to be criticised like that. I guess it could be a bit unpleasant. As you say spelling, grammar and punctuation make no difference on a forum anyway. Worth being cautious with new members. Apologies if I have upset anyone. That was not my intention.

There is a shop on a small housing estate on the left just up the hill from the junction in Luddendendenden foot. How far up are you coming? I'm moving my boat up to the top of the hill today or tomorrow, it's just below l32 at the moment. We have rain forecast today so that should ease issues a bit. Coming up from Hebden last week I had to keep going ahead and letting water down, but its not too bad further up. I'll let you know when I've seen it. WE've made it to Hebden bridge (just above lock 9) today... going to sleep on it as to whether we'll try to get to Mancs and back or not... it was SO tedious spending hours not moving and having to walk miles to run water down to get here. This poor boat in hebden is not in a good place right now. We might give in... spend a few days here and than fight our way back down - crt really are burying their head in the sand by NOT putting up notices... oh wait... they just have. Latest news from the top of the hill, just came past summit pound on way to boat just below lock 32, top pound full, loads of water around with recent rain. Any low pounds on way up are likely to be short and won't need much.

Any low pounds on way up are likely to be short and won't need much. We slept on it and decided not to risk getting stuck the "wrong side" - ... our mates have no choice and carried on... we walked and worked them up as far as lock 15 - had to keep going ahead to run water down as they kept getting stuck - CRT took over at 16... they got stuck again at 17 and needed to run a lot down from 18 to get them afloat. Looks like this year, Rochdale 1, NB Ellis, 0 - BACK to base we go tomorrow and will run some water down from 12 before we begin early doors... crt can take over looking after the rest of the day . SUCH a shame but we're quite deep and if we end up too delayed, will lose money that we need. :-( Now about this whip-round?
