Lack of foresight. Water-saving measures should have been thought about 6 weeks ago. There are still boats here coming up/down these double locks SINGLY, where's the sense in that? A part of me hopes it does not rain in England until 2019 - it would be interesting to see the Headless Chickens running around and scrapping over that last bottle of Highland Spring in Asda. Yeabut Highland Spring comes from Scotland. Not from the Highlands of course, but never mind! And no matter how much you wish it wouldnβt rain in Scotland until 2019, that ainβt ever going to happen!

does anyone know what the unique set of water resource issues are? As I understand it, there was originally meant to be a feeder link to the river Ribble from the greenberfield. But it never got built. I'm sure Pluto will,be along to tell me I'm wrong and give us full chapter and verse. But at least I've started the dialogue.

I will ask the Witch to cast a spell, And then you'll see all's not well, Scotland will n'er see another drop of rain, And all will shrivel and die in pain. ... And they won't thank her for the deed And tell you "gae boil yer heed"

Or, in no particular order, I'm not biased. Idiot boaters not closing paddles. CART mismanagement. Broken lock hardware. Cart mismanagement. Lack of preventative maintenance. Cart mismanagement. Lack of rain. Place in order yourselves. But all is well, we have. New Signs. Shiny blue signs.

the latest email I got from crt says they are closing another section from the 17th Aug - We're currently holed up in Skipton but will make a dash for it to get back to Wakey in time for blacking on the 20th... hmmf. - Notice Alert Leeds & Liverpool Canal Starts At: Lock 29, Bingley 5 Rise Top Lock Ends At: Lock 1, River Lock Friday 17 August 2018 08:00 until further notice Type: Navigation Closure Reason: Water resources Original message: Due to the continued drawdown of the river levels, the prolonged low rainfall and with the forecast for further dry weather, the Trust will be implementing temporary closures to navigation between Bingley 5 Rise Top Lock(Lock 29) to River Lock (Lock 1) at the beginning of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, commencing on Friday 17th August. The main lock flights will be padlocked closed at Bingley Three and Five Rise (Locks 22-29), Field (Locks 16-18), Newlay (Locks 11-13), Forge (Locks 8-10) and the gates will be ashed up to reduce leakage. Additionally to prevent unauthorised use, measures will be taken to make all the locks inoperable within this section. Itβs not clear how long the closure will last for but itβs likely to be throughout August and potentially beyond if there is no significant, sustained rainfall. While the closure will prevent use of that stretch of canal by boats the towpath will remain open for visitors and the local community alike to enjoy. The canal will remain open between Holme Bridge, Gargrave and the top of the Bingley 5 Rise Locks, approximately 20 miles You can view this notice and its map online here: canalrivertrust.org.uk/notice/13694/closure-bingley-5-rise-to-river-lock-low-water-levelsYou can find all notices at the url below: canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices

Towpaths will remain open? Surely not. That's about all that will be open. I thought it had been raining?

I don't understand why they need to say towpath is open. Surely that is obvious.
It would be an interesting to log the numbers of visitors and see if there is an increase or decrease due to the lack of boats.
