That sounds about right Clinton Cool ... Mr Stabby is hung like a sea horse ... we should have guessed from all the latent aggression Rog As I always say, "It's not big but it would fill a pram". if there's THAT much of it, have you not thought about joining a sperm bank for your deposits? - you'd never need to drive again! ETA - ah... It just dawned I was thinking of something different to you.

This is where Dulcinea is so well designed. Raining outside but does one seem remotely bothered? No.
I remember the days on back of narrow boat all seasons wet cold too hot etc.
Wheelhouse yes please thanks.
I suppose at the lock I may get a little damp but it may be over by then anyway!

Anyway, here's me with my old horse, he was called Danny and he was a gypsy vanner. He's in horsey heaven now but he was a sweetie.

Just checked, February 2012. Technically he wasn't my horse, I just used to look after him, muck out his stable because the lady who owned him was too poorly to do it.

A lot of people think that canal boats used to be towed by shire horses or other large breeds, and some of the horse-drawn trip boats still are but in fact they normally used cobs, which a gypsy vanner is a variant of.

I used to spend hours grooming him, used to get him looking really nice. Then he would go straight out and have a mental five minutes rolling around in the paddock. Then he would look at me as if to say "Fuck you and your horse brush".

Well that was interesting!
I got going about 11am today and thought about having a nice little cruise down the River. Something took over me I think it must have been autopilot and it ended up being a 12 hour run. Quite dark and slightly foggy but the local knowledge kicked in and now safely moored beside one of my surplus boats near Henley. Always handy to have surplus boats around..
A very enjoyable 12 hours of boating actually. I could do that again!
Familiarity breeds content, or was it contempt anyway it's the Thames for me forever now. Love it.

What a lovely horse..love the way his legs are different shades and what a glorious mane. I still ride occasionally when I get the chance but not since my S American cruise where I rode probably the best schooled horse ever. I did intend taking both grand daughters on the city ones annual stay down here, but the weather wasn't great and daughter had a full weeks activities lined up.

This looks like rather a civilised platform. Windsor Belle. An old surviving wooden steamer from 1901. at one time it had a Gardner diesel but it's since been put back in steam. For charter. Nice.

Yay, I've moved the boat!
Don't get exited though... only moved to the elsan/waterpoint and reversed the half mile plus back to my isolated lovely mooring.
Good to have some water though.
