Twerp is the man to help with this as he is a native of Inbredworth.

Power going in will be much lower if the batteries are approaching full charge of course, regardless of the rating of the alternator. Yes I suppose so, if you have lead acid batteries - which are so last century. I only raised the point because it could have misguided the uninitiated, who might then have expected their 90A alternator to pump 90A into the batteries at all times. The fact that Dogless saw a significant current going into his batteries suggests that they were only partly charged, not good for the life of batteries. That should be a thing of the past for him for much of the year, now he has solar.

Our power demands have not changed ... we have a fridge as the biggest draw ... that's it. No inverter, no heavy loads. As to Bedworth quaysider ... not readily accessed from the canal. We moor at Hawkesbury and walk back to Bedworth on the canal for a look around and bits of shopping (two miles) as there's an Aldi and Tesco plus other town shops. We tend to 'big' shop with trollies (to save taxi fares) at the large Tesco at the Ricoh Outlet down towards Coventry basin (1 1/2 miles) ... this is canalside, so you could moor opposite to shop, but we don't bother with the diversion as we like to walk anyway (being vibrant, young, lithesome, athletes π ) @twerp or @ianali are locals so perhaps they can help. And no airtex undies needed ... Jane won't moor in shady spots as it makes the boat gloomy inside Rog

All this talk of batteries and solar panels has me feeling like the poor relation again. Probably due to the lack of sun about at the moment... new batteries on with a little more capacity but still having to sit with the engine chugging (not moving cause we are here too early) for 3 hours a day to keep the freezer going. If I was young enough, I'd sell my body for a few weeks to finance a better solution - as it is, I'd be hard pressed to flog a kidney on ebay. Anyway - moaning a side, I'm pleased for you dogless to have joined the 21st century... it's quite painless lol. Still, you are going to find yourself on hot sunny days unable to hide from the sun any more so maybe buy some airtex underpants ;-) We moved into the noisier (but deeper) pound between 8 and 7 yesterday and judging by the continued choc-a-bloc ness further up, will stay here and have the guest walk down to meet us tomorrow. She's coming early than she should anyway so it'll help fill her time walking down the canal a bit... she's not frail so a mile with a back pack might make her think again about sneaking on an early train next time. QUESTION: We end this trip in Bedworth before going into Coventry basin (2 days later to collect the new folks) - I've heard disparaging reports on Bedworth ... do those in the know have any mooring recommendations near shops to make life easier or do we just take pot luck and hope for the best? Nuneaton you can walk to Lidl from the canal at cat gallows foot bridge 20a, about 10 mins. You can get a taxi (Bedworth Taxis) easy enough from Marston Junction as its closer to Aldi/Tesco (Five minute car ride) than it is from Hawkesbury, or if you can hold fire till you go down the five and half (the stretch from Hawkesbury to the basin) you pass the back of the big Tesco, bridge 8 is closest, moor just before the bridge on the piling, if you go under bridge 8 then you cant tie up as its a concrete bank. Marston junction in the school holidays can attract kids from the local estate, I have seen a couple of little shits lobbing stones at a boat, fella chased them off with a big chain, they didn't come back, i have moored there loads of times and never had any hassle though so don't be put off, its more of an overnight mooring, lots of high bushes so not really any views. I live a five minute drive from Marston, am away tomorrow to Monday lunch, but if you need picking up from tesco/aldi in Beduff and dropping back to the boat with shopping just let me know, its no biggie, or there are taxis in the car park outside Tesco, Aldi is over the road so can easily cross and get a taxi. I like to moor just before Hawkesbury junction, plenty of piling and away from the gongoozlers and foot traffic. If you moor past the junction next to the marina, be prepared for the local piss heads to hang around the benches all day on the weekend, harmless enough but a little annoying when you want to chill in the evening, more so if the sun is shining.

I just prefer it before the bend, nice and quite, wider green grass outside your boat instead of concrete plus a couple of extra minutes walk = extra pint!
We could have a TB session in teh greyhound! NBVidar (TWerp), NBEllis (Ginger), NB potato (Shit for brains), NB Peneke (sticky fingers), NB Clarence (speed demon)

Well, arrived at Reading on Monday.
The sun has pretty much shone the whole time with a bit of cloud.
Already drunk too much and not slept enough. And the night shifts start tonight.
The shop looks excellent after a good days graft yesterday, the only downside was deliveries were very late.
And guess who took the abuse for it? ππ
Managed to stagger to spoons this morning for a large breakfast and a couple of pints.

I just got past the temporary bridge a few evenings ago. It was 2030 and the span was already on the crane. Two EA patrol boats I cruised through then they closed in on each side of the bridge to stop traffic while the crane swung the span into place.
A bit lucky as I carried on until 11 that night and had a really pleasant night time cruise.
Would have been a bit naff to have been stuck in pikey land upstream of there. Just where that bridge is I moored years ago before they had the temporary bridge at all and it was the only time I have ever had someone get on and start rooting about in engine room while I was aboard the boat. It was a pikey kid. So bold ! Nothing stolen and I let him off but no longer wish to stop there.
They come from an area to left of the picture behind the trees close to the boatyard. Load of fairground gear stored there and some residential units.

safe picture sharingDifferent view whilst cruising now but I think I can live with it. Quite odd (especially on a cloudy day) that by the time we were ready to cruise (about 10am) the batteries were showing charged ... messes with your head a bit. Diesel at Dunchurch Pools is currently 80ppl base rate, and the blonde lady serving is lovely. Rog

I wonder how long it will be before you catch the corner of the solar panel with a centre rope? Should be a while as you obviously have had practice avoiding the flowersπ±
State of charge meters lie when you have solar π
