Cant wait to go cruising tomorrow...
Need to fix the loo, one of the four bolts holding the toilet to the tank has snapped at the back, means if you lean forward on the loo then you risk ending up on the floor.
I am crossing everything that I can simply replace the bolt and its wasn't actually welded to the tank, that will mean taking the toilet off and drilling a new hole through the tank, which doesn't appeal in the slightest.

I hope it's not mild steel. I fixed a sealand straight through toilet on my mum's boat years ago and it turned out the bolts were mild steel. And yes they were very rusty. I couldn't really believe they were not stainless. It seemed to be a manufacturer part not a short cut by the diy fitout although that is possible. Another location I have found a mild steel bolt was in a shower drain fitting. Bizarre. Replaced with stainless as were the toilet bolts.

All this talk of batteries and solar panels has me feeling like the poor relation again. Probably due to the lack of sun about at the moment... new batteries on with a little more capacity but still having to sit with the engine chugging (not moving cause we are here too early) for 3 hours a day to keep the freezer going. If I was young enough, I'd sell my body for a few weeks to finance a better solution - as it is, I'd be hard pressed to flog a kidney on ebay. Anyway - moaning a side, I'm pleased for you dogless to have joined the 21st century... it's quite painless lol. Still, you are going to find yourself on hot sunny days unable to hide from the sun any more so maybe buy some airtex underpants ;-) We moved into the noisier (but deeper) pound between 8 and 7 yesterday and judging by the continued choc-a-bloc ness further up, will stay here and have the guest walk down to meet us tomorrow. She's coming early than she should anyway so it'll help fill her time walking down the canal a bit... she's not frail so a mile with a back pack might make her think again about sneaking on an early train next time. QUESTION: We end this trip in Bedworth before going into Coventry basin (2 days later to collect the new folks) - I've heard disparaging reports on Bedworth ... do those in the know have any mooring recommendations near shops to make life easier or do we just take pot luck and hope for the best? Have read lock 10 at Atherstone has broken, gate has lifted out. Not sure how long before you head back but be worth checking.

The pump out/dump through on one of my boats was fitted to studs welded to the top of the tank. When they rusted away so had much of the tank round the dump through. It was so bad choice was replace the top of the tank or remove it, so away to the local tip it went to be replaced by a porta pottiπ

Someone put it on canalworld and mentioned the gate was a bit shagged already.
I wonder if it's the lower bearing broken up. Hopefully not as that would mean stanking off and draining it plus all the extra nonsense.
Could be a few days to sort.

Finished my third day of work, that's the three days I needed to pay Farmer Don my mooring fee for the next year. Work told me they can keep me on for as long as I want and certainly up until next Easter. I think like most hauliers they consider themselves lucky to find any driver nowadays but to find one with such beautiful, non-greying natural auburn tresses, well they must think all their Christmasses have come at once.
The younger of the Shit-for-Brains twins is up this weekend as is my brother and his new-ish partner who I've never met but who is apparently fascinated by the whole canal thing so we'll do a waterways sample, a run down past Hillmorton will take in Newbold Tunnel, a swing bridge and a few locks, then lunch in the Waterside maybe.
The elder of the Shit-for-Brains children will be up in early October and I'm hoping we can do the motorbike CBT together in Warwick, just waiting for a call on that this evening.

They probably have to ask TonyDunkley how to do it.

Somewhere during my social distancing I have been authorised to become socially undistant for a couple of days and get the children aboard the ship.
The weather looks fine and they quite like the open air alternative to the E1 inner east London estate.
Strange to have those two slightly different options but quite educational.
So we will visit sainsbury in Marlow for the beer and their food then onwards to my surplus arms dealer in Wycombe for the bang bang explosive things to deal with the Henley scrotes and those odd round men with their Dunkirk little shits.
Should be a fun weekend.
Weather looks good. 21 is my favourite temperature and it's going to be sunny.
I've got a bored game for the girls. A guessing game. Guess how many coats of varnish are on each boat.

No they don't due to age.
Test yes but quarantine no.
Travel from France to England. Children of all ages (all under 18s) who are resident in the UK, US, France, other EU countries, etc. do not need to quarantine at all, regardless of their vaccination status.
