Lots of waiting above Marsh lock. Nice to see the River busy but there was an idiot about in a 23ft Freeman. Idiot woman in this case. I was approaching Henley bridge downstream and taking the orange line in my picture below. She decided it was clever to increase her speed and pass me very slowly on the red line. Wrong side for a start and also too close to me risking vessel interaction. Boats travelling towards the bridge. Oh dear. Yes I was using the right hand arch rather than the centre arch as I always do going down river. I had a word at the next lock and she was on full defence mode quite certain she had been in the right and that it makes no difference which side you overtake people, when it is not appropriate to overtake (approaching bridge going downstream) or which side of the River you stay on. Bad. I'm amazed she has got down the River like that without having any accidents. Her bloke was nodding and she had a large empty wine glass so probably went into car driver mode at that point for the overtaking. I've been up and down the River a lot but never had anything as stupid as that. There is no noticeable flow on at the moment but Henley bridge is notorious for being collided with. It definitely would have been her doing the colliding but I would have had to deal with the wreckage as I had a lot of momentum.. It's not that serious but I like to attempt to educate people in order to potentially reduce the chance of it happening again.. I have noticed more people this year having a blatant disregard for the established rules of which side to travel on. Not a problem if a canoe or dinghy is on the wrong side for safety reasons or a trip boat making an obvious maneouver but someone overtaking on the wrong side with no warning approaching a bridge is just not acceptable.

Rivers, strange things, best to stick to muddy ditches.

Speaking of Henley bridge there was some dodgy looking trawler style boat last night around 9.30pm which did some bizarre manooovers following the orange line with no change in engine tone then buggered off afterwards. Difference being no other boats were around !

We went to a steam railway and saw a steam train today. Also went to a steam train yesterday, but more of a noddy one at Bala. An ex boating friend now plays up there driving them and signalling. Sweet engines in a beautiful setting. (Guess which twat forgot his camera.)

Suspect a lot of pleasure boaters may well not know or be bothered to learn the rules for navigation on the wet stuff. And when u have had a few vino common sense fights a losing battle with a 'What does it matter?' attitude Sadly these folk may only learn by shock tactics when they have/cause an accident ..

you might get lucky and find a boat to pair up with at the top... tie together and just one of you work the locks - although you will have to untie for a couple of them as the gates dont open all the way back.
At least it looks like a dry day... for now.

Funny old flight ... it's like they had a load of left over lock gear and used it all up on the 21 ... lots of different mechanisms You'll enjoy it. Rog

Back on board this lunchtime. off the Ashby tomorrow and heading Atherstone way. Not sure which direction after that. Ali keeps mentioning that she wants to go Tardebigge way, she has a thing for lock flights.
