Harping back to metanoia 's post about boats mooring inches away from you, when you've found a quiet isolated spot ... I was reading a thread on the 'dark side' discussing folks who run their engines outside usual hours. The opening poster has reported a boat to C&RT for this (I'm sure that'll be filed under F) rather than go and have a chat. The combination of the two 'types' ... those who HAVE to moor near other boats, and those that HAVE to complain about any non conformist behaviour is exactly what I find irritating. As Debs said, if you've taken the time and trouble to moor away from the world and its dog, why would anyone think it is appropriate to button up and share your space. On many occasions if I've seen boats pulling in I've nipped out to tell them I run the genny from 7pm to 2 am every night (I don't) in the hope they'll piss off ... usually works, but once or twice I've been told "That's okay, safety in numbers". I mean ... why the hell would you report someone to C&RT rather than have a chat. A friend lives on a permanent mooring without power, and he and all the boats there use genny's when solar doesn't provide. He's had boats moor opposite and then complain about the noise ! He advises them of the four miles of empty piling adjacent to the moorings ... sometimes even politely Rog Did you 'see' me over on that thread ?π

Jane says "Boaters chasing free buffets ... the very thought ! Er which pub was that" Rog William iv It was a remembrance night for a lady who passed earlier in the year, had a band on and was rammed, the buffet didnβt look very appealing to be fair, but everyone seemed to enjoy it, guess if you starve yourself for a week then anything looks good

A steam railway?
You mean a railway line that carries steam trains?

A steam railway? You mean a railway line that carries steam trains? They're smart cookies in Bedworth.

Had a walk and called in at the rear of the Greyhound for beer and live music. A duo who basically sang karaoke whilst he, for the most part, held a guitar without actually playing it. Very pleasant ... but it irritates me that he holds a guitar to sing. I prefer to listen to folks that actually sing and play their versions of stuff, rather than simply sing along to the record. But I enjoyed the beer, and the choice of music was okay ... if not actually live. I do like the Greyhound Rog

Beer... garden ... dry and warm ... I'll put up with it They had some fantastic equipment, and could sing ... just irritates me that some people will see someone with a guitar and expect it to sound like that. Rog

Pleasant cruise down to top of Wigan in sunshine (I'm ignoring the weed issue...), helped through Johnson's Hillock flight by no less than 4 vlockies. Only boater here pointing 'down' but moorings taken by people exhausted from coming up, so quite a jump from the boat to dry land...
Good to be moving again, even if it is only to the delights of Wigan!

Moored just short of Hopwas woods. Four of us here, safety in numbers and all that.
Fire up the bbq soon with a nice sirloin to drop on, may cook it dirty style!

Yes, I always appreciate it when I'm moored up on my own in the middle of nowhere and three boaters rock up and moor on my fenders because they are afraid the sky might fall on their heads. Even more so when they ask me if I can turn the music down.
