I was traveling down the River there once on my launch and the bridge started opening. How nice of them. No VHF as it is only 40ft long. Air draft less than 6ft so I was a little curious. Went through the centre arch and there was a 30m ship handling tug followed by a ridiculously large cruise liner.
Hmmm. OK. Port the helm !
They made a heck of a wash even going slowly.
Crikey on a bikey !

The one time we travelled downstream from Brentford to Limehouse was an horrendous experience. As one can only leave Brentford at high tide apparently, we were travelling on a falling tide following an abnormally high tide which was returning the detritus it had bought up. When we got towards Tower Bridge, we were following the Look-a-like Mississippi paddle steamer and the bridge was raised. I was too occupied with both hands on the tiller, and my wife was clutching the hatch side with both hands. Neither of us had the nerve to fetch the camera torecord the event. This, Roger, is why I'm inclined to agree with you that tidal rivers are not the right location for narrowboats. I do however think you miss out a lot avoiding the non tidal ones.

Circular walk around Hampstead and the Heath. Fabulous place and the walk was a real antidote to yesterday's crowds and bustle. Simply not a fan of river cruising brummieboy ... Oxford to Reading on the Thames is our longest river cruise (14 days) and it afforded access to many lovely places, but being on the river wasn't appealing in itself. The Thames at Tower Bridge was very choppy yesterday ... fine enjoying a pint on the Clipper, but not on my 'tin bath' 😁 Rog

I agree with all of this. I lived on narrow Boats for 12 yars and never took any of them on tidal water. Obviously they can handle it no problems blem but it is not all that ideal. I

It does look like one in profile though. Catches people out in quite humorous ways on the Grand Onion. I have been shouted at followed by the other Boat reversing.

So a narrowboat affected by middle aged spread... No it is an inspection lunch built on Yorkshire and the original dimensions were 9ft long 40ft wide for licensing reasons. After doing 12 yars in a 55ft narrow the whatever was whatever and I was like omg.
