Spent the day pottering around Stone and I did a few small jobs on the boat. Of note was that a lady fell off the side of Star lock, bottom gate end and she fell down onto the towpath which is quite a drop onto concrete. It is a bit dangerous by modern standards, although of course it’s been like that for a very long time. When we arrived she was lying on the ground, someone presumably her husband had put a blanket over her but she was shaking / shivering, probably from the shock rather than the cold. She certainly didn’t look very happy lying there with bloodied face. Ambulance arrived eventually and got her sitting in a chair so hopefully she’s ok. Bit of a shock though, canal boating can be dangerous when you least expect it.

I once very nearly knocked myself into a lock by being on the wrong side of a balance beam. But I was a bit more limber in those days and, having woken up to the impending doom, jumped over it at the last moment. Quite close though.

Hope she's fully recovered TelemachusAccording to one of Jane's fb groups (Friendly nb group) the lady was pulled by her boxer dog which she had on a lead with her at the time. I do hope the lock isn't condemned as 'dangerous' , when in reality working locks with a dog was perhaps the real issue. Rog

The Wombles. Perhaps the apotheosis of the decade that taste forgot. Mike Batt is not dead. I looked it up.

He wrote some terrific tunes ... unfortunately he put lyrics to them about imaginary animals.
Wombling Merry Christmas was a great sound.

I reckon football should just be penalities.
There are apparently 11 players on esch team so one could have ten penalties per side. All of the team members will need to have run a 10k first and done some weights.

The Jetty starts tomorrow evening, some filmed at Hollingworth Lake and the canal. Keep an eye out for the Amazing Silver Roof Box, I was moored for a while where they were filming.

There's a pound on the Aylesbury arm where the reeds are taking over. All good boating fun. Rog

Finally the refurbishment of M/Y Llanthony is complete.
Looks OK. It was never a wreck but someone spent a bit making it look very nice.

Rainy and a bit chilly tonight and the stove is lit. Shocking for mid-July.
