Was visited by fishery protection officers whilst out on the kayak earlier. Apparently the Mawddach estuary is a bass nursery area and as such I shouldn't have been fishing for them. Even though I'm 100% catch and release with this species. To be fair they were pretty friendly and were sympathetic with my reasoning that no harm is being done as I'm catch and release. Still, rules are rules. Oh well, plenty of other opportunities outside the estuary.

We did get cake in the end from a village store, but Jeff had to walk 3 miles round trip to get it. Iβm worth it.

I went on a waterway once which had nothing but moorings. It was a berth canal.

Well, no-one came to sink the boat, which was a little disappointing. Lunchtime stop at the Boat Inn, Cheddleton, was rather pleasant and then we moored above the flint mill museum, not before spending 30 mins trying to assist Halsall to wind outside the museum. In the end they gave up and decided to carry on down the locks, but we bought a calor cylinder from them so their time wasnβt entirely wasted.
Itβs all a bit hot for us northerners, especially as we have run out of ice lollies. Counting the minutes until I can have an ice cold G&Tβ¦

Work finished for another week. Managed to go in on the Vespa yesterday and today so that's seven times so far in July. Need to do 13.3 this month to hit my target. Gave the Scoopy a wash off with a bucket of soapy water and it's looking good. More cleaning tomorrow and a bit of mechanical exploration. Will have those body panels off, if only to put them back on properly. Ordered a new battery as the old one was showing 0.01 volts (it's a 12v system). May need to order an OSR indicator but I'll see if I can fix the one that's on there first. Also need to fit a brake master cylinder to the Vespa so will find time for that.

Just got back to the country estate with the offsprings after some odd train interactions and a visit to the wetherspoons in Reading. Do like going to the spoons as the older child is always writing notes so the staff think we are the mystery shoppers. Special treatment.
Or maybe its just me !
Anyway on the saloon launch and a trip to Henley tomorrow with the fleet is in order. I think of the afternoon we shall be mostly on the Podium. Nice swift little launch for getting around.
Worse things happen at sea thus far.

It was very hot here yesterday ... 33 degrees in the boat, all opened up until after 7pm.
A lot of cloud cover today so warm and dry but much more comfortable.
Some cleaning and laundry to do as my brother and his wife are coming tomorrow for a few nights.
Glad it will be cooler.

With regard to the Lanky & the problems getting there/back-there's now a breach on the canal !π³ Lucky escape then! I must say the Caldon, although very pretty and interesting, is really showing neglect. Paddles and gate collars dry and rusty, really bad offside vegetation with towpath side not much better, plus of course the bottom too close to the top. Never mind, we made it to Leek without any leaks, and the Uncle Dunkle boat has gone so we are safe.

Leek town centre looks reasonably prosperous, lots of shops and supermarkets. Had to walk up to Aldi to get more stock of my favourite wine of the moment. Then it started raining! Never mind, back on the boat now and fully loaded with unhealthy stuff.

Had all the body panels off the Scoopy today, found the frame number, picked up a V62 from the Post Office to apply for a V5C. Started repairing the legshield, stitched up a large crack using cable ties. Ordered a new ignition barrel as I think this is possibly why the lights aren't working and the battery doesn't appear to be charging.
Also fitted a new brake master cylinder to the Vespa and bled the brake system, which has transformed the braking action.
Have the last day of driver CPC training next Saturday, this will almost certainly be the last time I do it as it lasts five years and I can't see me working past age 70. I'll probably do a couple more years then call it a day.
Then the next weekend Charlie is coming up on his bike (Royal Enfield Himalayan) and we're going to go for a few ride-outs, I'll be on the Vespa. But he's looking forward to seeing the Scoopy as essentially it's going to be his to ride when he comes up by car or train.
