With no further posts to follow up on his 26 August guest post, it appears that Arnac may have been put-off coming back to this forum for any further assistance with pilotage services, passage scheduling etc. by the mindless tripe posted in response to his request by a small handful of Thunderboat's particularly stupid, but very disruptive, group of pointless, ill-intentioned, know-nothing morons.
I hope this is not so. Between me, the Tarleton lock-keepers (Mayors boatyard staff), the Douglas Boatyard, and Preston (Docks) Marina there's, in total, several lifetimes of experience and know-how at his and others disposal, . . including from me, operating commercials to tight difficult to keep schedules on the rivers Douglas and Ribble, loading bagged chemicals overside in Preston Docks for transhipping to ICI at Anderton (River Weaver) in the 1960's.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Hello Arnac, . . and welcome to Thunderboat. I doubt there'll be any definitive answers from C&RT for you, or anyone else wanting to make the passage from Preston back to the Rufford Arm at Tarleton. But the good news is that with the joint co-operation of Preston Marina (Preston Docks), Douglas Marine (boatyard at Hesketh Bank on River Douglas), and Mayors Boatyard at Tarleton, who operate Tarleton Lock for C&RT, we can advise, schedule, and assist with passage from the Lancaster back onto the L&L's Rufford Arm at Tarleton for everyone who's been left stranded by the C&RT. God will be of considerable assistance too, . . he's still sending two tides up the Ribble every day, . . and the majority of them are big enough - 8.0 metres or more on the River Gauge at Preston Docks - to put enough water in the lower parts of Savick Brook for shallow draught canal boats, . . whatever nonsense the clowns at C&RT are saying to the contrary. Do you know roughly how many boats in total are wanting to get back from off the Lancaster before Winter ? With the Half-Tide Gate/Barrier at the low end of the semi-tidal section of Savick Brook out of use, it's very unlikely that any passages from Preston back to Tarleton will be possible without at least a one tide layover in either Preston Docks, or on a floating stage at Hesketh Bank on the River Douglas. Have the C&RT given any specific reasons, valid or otherwise, for limiting passage past the site of the breach at the aqueduct to seven days starting on 20 September ? Please call or e-mail if you would like more details, or any questions you'd like to have answered. You may well have read them already, but there are quite a few posts in this thread and others that you'll find informative and useful. I'll post links to them as soon as I've got time. Regards, Tony Dunkley. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Links to other useful/helpful posts ref. Nice enough morning.
Managed to get the aluminium repair plates on with sikaflex yesterday so I can relaunch the Taskmaster today and see if it still takes on any water. Should be alright. A small seepage doesn't really matter as that area will get some rain water anyway so will need a little bilge pump.
There is a cover with the vessel but its not a particularly good one.
Because these Boats are a sort of barrel shape on top the best way to cover it is going to be with flexible boards of some sort either thin plywood or plastic.
That would be ideal as it could then be more or less sealed.
Then I have to wait for the pump housing and impeller so I can put the outboard back together and give it another run in a bin of water before refitting.
Realistically this Boat might be up and running next week.

Bus from Snarestone to Atherstone this morning and a visit to the launderette and shops.
Handy bus as there's little other than peace and quiet on the Ashby. Fabulous listening to the tawny owls last night.
Had a terrific rump steak and bottle of Shiraz in the Globe for £35 ... lovely staff in there.

As an aside, the large Coop at Atherstone is now a Tesco ... we've not been this way since last year so it was news to us. Tesco and Aldi across the road ... very convenient. Rog Nice mural

Rog Interestingly, we also had 2 steaks and a bottle of Shiraz last night. The Plough in Braunston, also pretty good. Went up the Braunston flight this morning and through the tunnel. Heading up the Leicester line this week, not been this way for a while. Feels like heading home as we moored at Crick in our early days of boating.

There are quite a few miserable boaters out today. It's September - they look forward all summer to coming out now just for this opportunity! Roll on October....

Anyway one of the repairs did leak. I realised afterwards that it would be better to tighten up the bolts once the sealant had partly gone orf. Otherwise one squeezes the sealant out irredeemably.
So back end lifted and more PU sealant bodgery.
The aim is to have a usable Boat.
I think it will float OK tomorrow and not get water in.
Different story when the motor is pushing it along.
worse things happen at sea. Roll on 4th of December and potentially it will all be a minor nuisance.

Your video doesn't work Admiral. Here's a photo instead. Pleasant hours cruise ... quite bosky up the top of the Ashby but so peaceful. Rog

Damp, windy (and it's getting stronger) and impossible to see the sun for thick dark clouds.
I think we'll just settle down today.
Supposed to be a much better day tomorrow ☀️
