With no further posts to follow up on his 26 August guest post, it appears that Arnac may have been put-off coming back to this forum for any further assistance with pilotage services, passage scheduling etc. by the mindless tripe posted in response to his request by a small handful of Thunderboat's particularly stupid, but very disruptive, group of pointless, ill-intentioned, know-nothing morons.
I hope this is not so. Between me, the Tarleton lock-keepers (Mayors boatyard staff), the Douglas Boatyard, and Preston (Docks) Marina there's, in total, several lifetimes of experience and know-how at his and others disposal, . . including from me, operating commercials to tight difficult to keep schedules on the rivers Douglas and Ribble, loading bagged chemicals overside in Preston Docks for transhipping to ICI at Anderton (River Weaver) in the 1960's._____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Hello Arnac, . . and welcome to Thunderboat. I doubt there'll be any definitive answers from C&RT for you, or anyone else wanting to make the passage from Preston back to the Rufford Arm at Tarleton. But the good news is that with the joint co-operation of Preston Marina (Preston Docks), Douglas Marine (boatyard at Hesketh Bank on River Douglas), and Mayors Boatyard at Tarleton, who operate Tarleton Lock for C&RT, we can advise, schedule, and assist with passage from the Lancaster back onto the L&L's Rufford Arm at Tarleton for everyone who's been left stranded by the C&RT. God will be of considerable assistance too, . . he's still sending two tides up the Ribble every day, . . and the majority of them are big enough - 8.0 metres or more on the River Gauge at Preston Docks - to put enough water in the lower parts of Savick Brook for shallow draught canal boats, . . whatever nonsense the clowns at C&RT are saying to the contrary. Do you know roughly how many boats in total are wanting to get back from off the Lancaster before Winter ? With the Half-Tide Gate/Barrier at the low end of the semi-tidal section of Savick Brook out of use, it's very unlikely that any passages from Preston back to Tarleton will be possible without at least a one tide layover in either Preston Docks, or on a floating stage at Hesketh Bank on the River Douglas. Have the C&RT given any specific reasons, valid or otherwise, for limiting passage past the site of the breach at the aqueduct to seven days starting on 20 September ? Please call or e-mail if you would like more details, or any questions you'd like to have answered. You may well have read them already, but there are quite a few posts in this thread and others that you'll find informative and useful. I'll post links to them as soon as I've got time. Regards, Tony Dunkley. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Links to other useful/helpful posts ref. My guess is he's not offering advice on mounting any kind of out board. Rog I use Stauff clamps. Trolling motors have round shafts a couple of these make a very secure and easily detached low profile mounting bracket.

Grey and cloudy morning with occasional rain here, but still warm.
Supposed to dry up mid morning 🤞
Think we'll head to the services.

I slipped orf the back deck yesterday. Managed to avoid going head first into the canoe by grabbing part of the Boat. Big bruise on left shin and sore back.
Oh dear.
I also have a 32kg reel of stainless chain to collect from a nearby shop. Hmmm. This is a 100m reel of 4mm stainless chain. Sucker for stainless chain I am. 100m for £120 was too good to refuse really as its far more than that usually. Looks like the real 316 stuff it is not mickey mouse.
Worse things happen at sea.

Its the left leg where the nerve doesn't work properly so I don't really notice it. It did swell up. Walking is fine.
Ageing is fun isn't it.
I slipped because of messing around with the outboard motor on the back deck in damp weather and a loose piece of wood.
More care needed and perhaps a sheet to stop the deck getting oily.

I changed a gas bottle in the bow locker the other day ... no slips bangs or other trauma but ... Hell of an egg and swelling and I didn't even know I'd done it. We become quite fragile with age ☹️ Rog

Some uncertainty whether I'll buy the Strikeliner or not. There's a ply spacer between the transom and the engine which is on the way to being rotten. Also 2 holes that have been drilled in the transom which have not been sealed. Poking around with a cable tie, all I had to hand, revealed some dark brown gunge. Rot in the transom would be very bad news. I'll now see if the owner is prepared to replace the spacer, through which the engine is bolted, and drill out the holes with a bigger drill, prior to sealing, to investigate whether any rot has set in.

I did read that C&RT intend to open the Ribble Link for one week this month, so people can get on or off before it is in any case closed for the winter.

!n common with you, Chloroform Alice, . . and your contemptible little circle of like-minded internet trolls, the only things C&RT is capable of opening with any degree of competence or professionalism, are its corporate public relations bowels, . . whenever misleading content or nonsensical bullshit copy is needed for any sort of navigation stoppage notice or announcement.
