Just remember after this weekend it doesn't start to get lighter in the mornings until next year 22nd December 2020. This year. Maybe not very noticeable for a week or so though. Sunrise 22nd December 2020 08.04 Sunrise 31st December 2020 08.06 Sunrise 2nd January 2021 08.05 Looks to me as if the mornings are still closing in until 2nd Jan Notice I didn't refer to day length which indeed gets longer from the 22nd. www.timeanddate.com/sun/uk/london?month=12&year=2020

Not so, that is the shortest day but it is neither the date of the earliest sunset (which is on 12th December) or the latest sunrise (30th December).

Nippy, but dry morning. I can go to work and mix with colleagues and total strangers ... but I cannot visit family members in their homes ... or leave the town . I can go to the gym ... but I can't take part in an exercise class. I can eat out in a pub ... but I can't go to my local which doesn't serve food. Clean hands, making space, and wearing a mask make a weird kind of sense in the current climate ... but these other imposed restrictions bring the whole thing into the realms of nonsense and disrepute. Ah well ... ours not to reason why Rog

Ah well ... ours not to reason why Rog Our close family, and pretty well all our close friends are now doing as we want. Keeping ourself as safe as is possible, whilst still living some kind of a life. We break the rules that have been set. But we are being sensible. Before anyone tells me we are being foolish, I’d add that none of our group have fallen ill, unlike the leaders that have set these ridiculous new rules.

"Allan Leighton, chair of the Canal & River Trust, comments: "Our role as a Trust dedicated to improving the lives of millions of local people, offering a ‘Natural Health Service’ for the huge urban populations with canals on their doorstep, is now widely recognised, as well as connecting people to the beautiful countryside our network runs through.""

Just read Mark's blog ... always a good, entertaining read and I definitely recommend it as one of the best. I happened to see BBC local news where a street 'vox pop' introduced us to a spirited 83 year old lady mentioned in quaysider 's blog, who pointed out that she had no intention of 'hiding away' for what little life she had left, and that the young workforce were the ones that would have to pay for the damaged economy, not the whinging pensioners. The lady suggested that we need to learn to live with the virus, and get on with life ... I thought she was a star ... interesting that she struck a chord independently with Mark. Great blog quaysider as usual ... soon be spring Rog
