OK then, it's a bit like remaining in a trainspotters' club to try to persuade them to stop looking at trains.
It's a bit like remaining in an anglers' club to try to persuade them to stop catching fish.
It's a bit like remaining in the Womens' Institute to tell them they should buy their jam from Sainsbury's.
To imagine, as one of the least powerful political interests in the eu, that we had any chance of reforming it from within is nonsense. In the run-up to the referendum, you might remember that David Cameron went off to Europe to negotiate a better deal, and came home with his tail between his legs, totally humiliated and degraded.
If Merkel wouldn't move an inch in the run up to the referendum, why would she move had we voted to remain?

I am reserving judgement on Theresa May, there is an iron determination there and that might be what we need to get us through the next few years

If we were one of the least powerful political interests in the EU then why were they so desperate for us to stay? We have political clout because we contribute so much, the fact Cameron got so little says more about him than it does the EU, Thatcher as much as I dislike her politics showed how to deal with the EU tell em what you want and take no less, Cam was a bully against those with no power and a pussy against those who have it.

It is possible that we could've had political clout because of our contributions but only if we'd had a strong leader at the helm. You are on the money re cameron

Merkel looks like Ann Robinson did before she had the face stretched. Thats my useful input for this morning.

There's nothing wrong with Mondays - it's your life that's shit. I don't know if you posted in the right thread but a truer word was never spoken in jest !!! I sometimes write the names of the last 10 threads on scraps of paper, put them into an old top hat, and pull one piece of paper out. That's the thread to chuck in the random remark!
