I don't think there is a place for traditional politics anymore. I think I have suggested in the past that we need independent representation in parliament where MP's don't have to follow a party line and can think for themselves. If we continue with the current political model I doubt Labour will ever get in again. Then they'd have to gang up together to get anything done, find they were always with the same people and...that's what party politics is.

New leader is Sir Keir Starmer. No surprise there Just as well, because if it had been Jeremy post gender change (aka Rebecca) the Labour Party would have remained unelectable and ceased to exist. I was thinking along similar lines although I wrote "slight disappointment that specky becky didn't win; that would have been the death knell of the party and would have opened up the field for a fresh approach to politics" before I checked your post.

Independent MP's could still gang up together to deal with pressing issues as our current MP's do now. It's just that they'd be able to allocate more time to the issue rather than towing the party line. When it comes to voting, the same, they'd be able to vote for what they believe in, rather than succumb to peer bullying. Anyway, who does represent the working classes now? Labour?

Listened to Sir Keir's victory speech earlier. It's early days of course but he came across to me as someone without great conviction. Rather, someone who would flit from one populist cause to the next. A bit like Andy Burnham, but posher.

He'll pull everyone in, then at the last minute sell out to the Tories (like what he did with Brexit). TBH, I rarely disagree with anything Farage says. I'm not sure what that says about me, but if life was only about words, he'd have me convinced.

Well, given that it took Labour five months just to choose a leader, I doubt they would have been any quicker off the mark. I note Dominic hasn't prompted Boris to respond to Keir's and the country's concerns yet. It's the tories' inaction which is delaying the testing and tracing, should have been started weeks back when numbers were lower, polymerase reagents ordered in bulk. But no, they were too busy ignoring their own advice, cuddling up like public school boys and sharing the virus around between them. So now more people will die.
