ETA elastic bands don't have the correct tension. can you quantify that please? Have not run the math as yet however you will find an elastic band expands at a fairly constant rate until it's really tight. These devices don't do that they have minimal elasticity and take advantage of the taper on the battery post.

?? I thought they were quite smooth.

I still think it's better to talk about battery terminals.
ETA are you seeking information here about who was subjected to the pipe cutter treatment as an infant?
Not sure why it's relevant.

I was wondering how a foreskin fitted in with your descriptions of elasticity............. who knows, it might even be a good substitute for a bottle stopper or an elastic band. seems that with the return of the fuxx you have suddenly gone all serious. personally I would use a jubilee clip all day long - for a battery terminal that is, not a male member of coarse course.

I know a jubilee clip is a willy handy thing to have around but if all your jubilees are in use then these little soya milk carton ring pull things are the dogs bollocks for quick and convenient attachment of bare wire ends to standard battery terminals when using low wattage equipment such as USB adaptors running phone chargers.
Much more convenient to carry in a pocket than jubilee clips if you don't want anyone asking what it is in your pocket.

what is the procedure for using the dogs bollocks in such an application?
PS: if you've got a free battery terminal the best way is to use a proper terminal clamp (the type that has 2 screws that can be used for ring crimp terminals) but omitting the main battery cable. Why do it any other way?

No tools required with the ring pull.
This reminds me of when I first left home. Back then the kind of place I could afford to rent was hung over from the days when most rooms had just one socket, no doubt nobody could really even see the need even for that and it was the future proofing of it's day. It was common to jam wires into every orifice of a 3-way block adaptor with real plugs shoved over the top to both operate the earth prong operated gates inside the adaptor and hold the wires in place. It was possible to plug 6 appliances into a single spurred socket. Those 4 way ones on a cable hadn't been invented. Or maybe they were too expensive, probably about the same £ today as they were 40 years ago.

Because the Boat Safety scheme specifically bans that type of battery terminal clamp These days you have to have the type with a single vertical post usually M8 sometimes M10 with a nut and and spring washer. The two set screw type are deemed unsafe because the high current cable being held down by those little sets is prone to sparking. Eta reading your post again I see you are ahead of me on this one.

But I went for the boats. Oh dear.

Just before I left home I could have bought a terraced house for 1 years salary but I was 18 and didn't want to be lumbered with a house...or a job that paid 3x as much as I needed. I couldn't seem to get an shit pay but fun job. If I'd never got married and had kids I'd be a multi-millionaire, except I wouldn't because I wouldn't have bothered.

the way to riches is to marry a poor girl and buy somewhere for her and the sprogs to live.

ETA elastic bands don't have the correct tension. can you quantify that please? Just multiply the turns to get the correct tension. Then you can quantify the tension by the number of turns.

You could always produce a chart showing the number of turns of a standard rubber band* against the maximum amps that can be drawn from the battery * A suitable candidate for the standard rubber band could be the type used by postmen to bundle letters as these are freely available scattered along most inhabited areas of the country and are thus free to those parsimonious enough to be using them instead of battery clamps in the first place
