I'd rather use bits of bicycle inner tube. The racer type really thin ones.

Definitely. However some of them are aware of it and use some sort of alternative arrangement for pressurising their tyres.

I'd rather use bits of bicycle inner tube. The racer type really thin ones. I raced at national level and used tubular tyres which were stuck onto the rims with a type of mastic. If punctured you had to pull of the rim tape at the site of the puncture them cut the stitches that held the tyre closed and extract the punctured section. The tube was only as thick as a condom, you had to use very thin patches or you could feel a bump each time you rode over the patch. Of course great care was needed when sewing up the repaired tyre. Phil I remember that, my dad was a time trailer, including the Vets in later years. It killed him at 55, he had a year off training to look after Grandma, he started training again after she died, the week he started his heart went pop.

Should have added that the tyres being stuck on meant that during a race you could simply rip off the flat and fit a fresh tyre, no need to use mastic because there was enough left on the wheel. A tyre change could be made in a couple of minutes. Of course sometimes somebody would just give you a wheel saving you precious time, the wheel would be exchanged at the finish Phil

............... but the question remains - can you use a vet on a bike to ensure your battery works proper?

The vet is probably an expert in saddle chaffing.
