Being a massive 90βs Irish Boyband fan, I ordered myself a teeshirt from a cheap Chinese screen printing company advertising quality items on EBay. It arrived today, well pissed off!ππ

Taken this morning, three and a half days after the last photo - I still count 5 beaks: Few more feathers on them. Spotted Flycatchers. There was just one egg in the nest 3 weeks ago. Little edit: this is the first Summer we've spent in Finland for 15 years (for me 20 years), so we are seeing it and its wildlife at this time, but it is impossible to be outside for long in the same spot because of the mosquitoes, they swarm around you and attack relentlessly, I have certainly not missed them during the past summers.

Why has no busybody upstanding citizen of Finland been campaigning against this? When I first went to Finland (70's?) the first time I saw Finnish soldiers it caused a raised eyebrow ...... Field Grey, coal scuttle helmets .... for all the world looking like the Wermacht.
I think most* know that the only reason they were in WWII was because they were working on the false principle that anyuone who fights the Soviet Union couldn't be all bad.
* well maybe not when you see some of the stupidity of the PC and WOKE brigades

The story is, of course, that Russia wanted 2 areas in Finland for bases, and the Finns knew that, as with the other countries after the war such as Poland, Hungary and Czechoslovakia, once the Russkies get one foot in the door the house is theirs. Finland took sides with Germany as there wasn't really much other option. The cowardly Swedes claimed 'neutrality' - which meant giving the Germans access to Norway: "Murky truth of how a neutral Sweden covered up its collaboration with Nazis" - www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/murky-truth-of-how-a-neutral-sweden-covered-up-its-collaboration-with-nazis-5372299.html Finns went to war twice with Russia and did pretty well numbers for numbers, but when the war was over the 'powers' demanded that Finland pay 'reparations' (ie. blackmailed) to the USSR which is when Finland switched from being an agricultural country to a heavily industrialised one. All in all, I've always claimed that the plusses and minuses between Finland and the UK are about the same, all balanced out. Yes, Finnish politicians have always been corrupt and still are, and Finland has a lot of shame to its history. Yes, the British, unprepared for war, had a go at the Germans (twice) - but does that make up for the shameful history of pillage in China, India, Africa, America, sending poor people to the colonies of Australia and New Zealand and the general maltreatment of its citizens? Even today school kiddies denied 'free' lunches.

Black Lives didn't really matter to Liverpudlians in the Good Olde Days: "Liverpool ships were a key part of the trade and the town became Europeβs leading slaving port in the second half of the 18th century. At least 12 million Africans were forcibly transported by Britain and other countries but many millions more were profoundly affected. The transatlantic slave trade destroyed African societies, robbing them of young people." www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/huge-impact-slave-trade-3467891 "Many Liverpool roads bear the names of slave traders, and imagery of slaves and slave ships is present in buildings across the city."

Just had a nice walk up to the newly reopened library in Tarleton, I believe in using these services to ensure they remain open. I stumbled upon an interesting book in the cookery section that brought back many happy memories of Sunday lunchtimes in the early seventies at my Nanaβs house! Fantastic.π
