1M unemployed now, in recession, all going pete tong.
I am glad I have a boat and a rented house, if the shit hits the fan we can pack the teenager off to his dads and live on the boat, but it must be daunting at the minute if you are heavily in debt and tied into too many things..

Unemployed @froggy ?
Made redundant ?
Jane's sister has also been made redundant after a period of being furloughed ...not the best time for job seekers at the moment ... especially those in their fifties.
I hope things work out for you very positively and very quickly.

Back to the seventies then...
At least they had decent music and honest statistics then...

I had my HGV licence restored yesterday and I've been looking at the work situation. Normally road transport is very heavily affected in a downturn but I've been surprised at how much work there is about. The only thing I can imagine might be causing that is that a significant number of eastern Europeans, who are heavily represented in the industry, may have decided to return to their home countries as a result of Covid particularly in the earlier stages when road transport traffic was down by over 50%.

Well that’s good news, at least you will be able to work when you need to, I’m wondering if there’s going to be work this winter or not.

I am hopeful that the U.K. will pick up quickly, obviously that depends on covid, also Brexit is coming, this could well make things worse.

I think I am safe, but who knows at the minute.

Normally I do agency work, which suits me as I do need more time off than the average Joe, but I'm currently looking at getting semi-permanent work at the animal waste rendering place in Nuneaton, which is pretty much unaffected by economic downturns. I've worked there before via the agency and you do need a strong stomach to do it but I'm not particularly squeamish and the money's good.

Yes, used to be Prosper De Mulda, got taken over by Saria group. The facility itself is a bit whiffy, but I was out on the road 99% of the time. It's just that loading big plastic crates full of cow's heads etc is a bit off-putting to some, although it never really bothered me.

I always believe the ftse 100 is a good indicator of business confidence and that's climbing over 6,200. The ftse 250 (UK companies) is at 17,900 which isn't too shabby. I suspect the 'money men' are seeing the potential for quick growth back to 2019 levels. Glad I misunderstood the post @froggy ... and congratulations Mr Stabby ... sounds the perfect job for you after all ... where's the best place to hide body parts Rog

Back when this started I heard talk of markets collapsing, banks going bust. Pensions and savings wiped out. My pension is now pretty well back to its value of a year ago. I find it all very odd.

Lots of money has been spent on better extraction of late. Still, in this heat...

Went past a couple of years ago on the boat, must have been melting down the lambs waste as it smelt of roast lamb, was nice but also grim..
