I hope that the people here who are rather blaise about the virus, are proven right. If I had to bet on the outcome Iβd say it will all blow over. However, I am finding it all a bit of a worry and it could turn proper nasty. Itβs starting to effect many peopleβs lives, and if cases increase as expected then it will take years for our country to recover. My fingers are firmly crossed.

Because of a huge reduction in parents having kids immunised, measles and mumps are making a massive come back ... this is a worry as they kill you.
Over use of anti biotics is creating a situation of greater resistance ... this is a worry on a global scale as we could be plunged into a new dark age.
Political terrorism is a real worry ... the suggestion that the race for groups to arm with nuclear weapons is gaining impetus.
From everything I have read the current virus ( for the VAST majority who are not suffering a pre existing condition) would make you feel poorly ... and then you get better ... very many don't even feel poorly.
I am genuinely confused as to what the huge worry is ?

Given the demographic of this forum, and that the coved morbidity rate increase with age, We could see a 70% reduction in posts (and thatβs just from that full o shite fox bloke)π

It must be weird being a small child at this stage.
My girls are 7 and 9 quite impressionable ages all they hear at school is there is no future because of climate change and this Corona virus is going to kill everyone except children.
I keep telling them about the idiots in the world and they understand there is a lot of nonsense but it seems sad that there is such an aggressive move to rule by fear.
Yes we are all going to end up knowing someone who died of covid19 and the planet is going to burn up in the next few decades but it's best not to worry about it too much.
The worst thing is it is likely to cause more vegans and that really would be quite awful.

No I think you worry too much.
The fatality rate is maybe up to 4 or 5 times more than the flu that comes through the country every year.
It might be that many, many thousands of people will die but when you think that in a bad flu year such as 1968 (Hong Kong Flu) some 30,000 people died in the UK ....... shit happens and there is nothing you can do about it so making light of it is better than getting worried.

.. and I, too, am genuinely asking what's going on with the toilet roll thing? Bizarre beyond belief, really.
If it was a gastro virus, fair enough β¦.
Perhaps it's something they're not telling us?!

I was hearing about a friends youngster, who is struggling with nightmares and sleeping because of worries about the virus ... tough time for parents with young children ... they hear so much but don't understand as @someboater suggests.

You can't grow toilet rolls in your back garden, or on the roof of your boat. This is the key. One can produce enough food if under the cosh and water is available but bog rolls, the ultimate scam performed against humans, are something one can not get hold of during the Armageddon. I personally prefer baby wipes but I only do a number two once a day so a pack of 72 wipes lasts... 72 days. Quick maths makes that 5 packs of baby wipes for a year. Not particularly arduous and they go on the fire not in the toilet.

As I said, I hope your right. I'm not being right ... I'm genuinely asking what the worry is ? Rog I am not sure where Ian stands on the demographics of Thunderboat but most of the "lighthearted comments" seem to be coming from us wrinklys
(which in someways is a bit odd as we are in the highest at risk group) I don't know if the fact that we grew up at the dawn of the atomic age, lived through the cold war and flash point stages such a the Cuban missile crisis and the ever present threat of nuclear war and we became better at not worrying about things that we had absolutely no control over. Or maybe it's just something that comes with age as you gradually realise that just living itself is dangerous.

Could it be because old people are using more toilet roll?
eta - generally speaking - and that, in and of itself, is possibly becoming dangerous?!!
