Those that think the Sun is a rag but the Times is ok should buy a copy of each and compare. The content is almost exactly the same, but the Times uses longer sentences and bigger words.

The disagreements and differences are as important a part of any relationship as any other. Restricting any interaction with others with different, even opposing views, must lead to a very one dimensional life don't you think ? I absolutely agree that it is important not to have a partner who has exactly the same views as oneself- the relationship would become an echo chamber, and might get dull. Challenge and variety are important- my ex loved crime thrillers on TV, which I found generally a bit tedious, but the discussion about their merits was very interesting, and I ended up enjoying some of them. We differed in our approach to handling criminality and the law, among many other areas. A bit of dynamic tension is a good thing, but I always felt we were on the same moral ground, broadly speaking. But my worry is that politics has become so divisive that I would not have that feeling with a person who regularly bought the Mail. I just wouldn't get started with a woman who had the sort of worldview. And given such a wide difference in worldviews, it is just being realistic to acknowledge it, and look for a less antagonistic situation. Hopefully in the future politics will become a less charged issue, but at the moment that seems far away.

The Times has a very good coverage of horse racing, far better than any other mainstream paper. seriously on the news stories, yes the same stories are covered in the Sun as the Times, but the Times covers more stories and with more depth. As well as that the letters to the editor are always worth reading . signed........ Disgusted of Beverley (anyway I like longer sentences and bigger words)

The newsprint industry is in a slow painful decline and has been so since the eighties.
The heady days of independence and strong journalism are long gone.

My grandparents, despite totally opposing political views were both intelligent people. They got on. My ex was thick as shit so we didn't get on for long. Looking back I should have married someone clevererer.

I didn't know the mail on Sunday had a prize crossword...almost tempted to buy one. I don't normally buy one but my sister gets it every week and every Sunday morning we have a long talk on the phone and do the crossword between us (anything between half an hour and an hour to do and we always finish it ...... even if we sometimes cheat and look something obscure up )

I doubt I'll read much else.....

Jane buys a Times on Saturday ... but mainly for the large crossword and the review.
I have been an avid newspaper reader (Yorkshire Post and Times mostly) but gave them up over the last ten years having lost patience ... opinion seemed to replace reporting of facts, together with the cult of celebrity.

I haven't read Private Eye for a long time but they used to have a fiendishly difficult crossword. I could normally solve around three out of four but it would usually take me five or six days. It's weird how you can spend all day trying to solve a crossword clue but then you go to sleep and as soon as you look at it again the next day the answer is glaringly obvious.
