I could never get to grips with chess.Paul loves chess & plays games against the computer ! It seems like you like solving logical puzzles and thought chess might be a good game to take up. Chris got into Sudoku after I started doing it then got better than me. So it encouraged me to do better. I prefer using the pad (computer) version as its easier to do the small numbers (I don't need to keep using a rubber).

Only time I got into chess was years ago when a friend's dad had an automatic chess board which moves the pieces by itself. Cool bit of equipment. 1980s. You could play against it and it would do all the moves by itself.
Once I discovered it could be set to play against itself I just set it up and watched it.
That was fun.

I'm useless at chess, at least one of my sons is pretty good at it....I'm not really very keen on games like that but I love Scrabble, i suppose theres an on line of that as well.

Yes, we play Scabble together using the pad sometimes. At least you cant tip the pieces over..lol. Actually it's quite funny really as Chris being an ex teacher comes up with better words than me but I am more tactical where I put the pieces.

I don't like games that require planning ahead and a lifetime to learn all the cunning ways to defeat those who haven't been equally obsessed.
Backgammon for the win. Roll the dice, pick the best move.

I used to play Yahtzee (5 dice) endlessly by myself pretending I was two people. Scores marked on a piece of paper.
It's great once the chatting and general banter gets going between the players.
The other one was tossing a coin until both heads and tails were within 10% of each other. Like 10:9 or whatever. Sometimes it takes ages but probability takes over after a while.
