Yep - He got 'stuck' when we got locked down and figured, Skipton is certainly nicer than Manchester... not sure how I'm going to keep paying him but hey ho. ALTHOUGH - quite often when I say "WE" - I'm referring to the boat and myself. Is your cabin boy Roger? no but he has been rlmao.

My ringtone is the Cuckoo Waltz, aka Laurel and Hardy theme tune. Had it for years. Anyone else personalised theirs? Some decades ago Gilly got a new Sony mobile that featured the ability to assign different ring tones to different groups from the address book, and also allowed you to record whatever music you wanted via the phoneβs mike. Depending on the ring tone, you could know whether it was likely to be someone you wanted to talk to or not (as in whether it was βbusinessβ or βfamilyβ for example). Experimenting with this, instead of music I recorded myself saying: β Hey Gilly β this is me, Nigel; pick up the phone, I need to chat β Gilly? Cβmon, I know youβre there . . .β and assigned it to a βgroupβ comprising only my number. I didnβt let on that I had done this of course. The next time I knew she was off being driven somewhere in a friendβs car, I tried it out and rang her. It was rather a success (from my viewpoint anyway). The bewildered consternation must have been something, when I suddenly began apparently calling out to her from her handbag. History has fogged somewhat as to the aftermath. I suspect I was asked to modify the βring toneβ at some point, or she got a new phone eventually. The experience didn't lessen her dark suspicions as to the extent these things can be used to spy on one.

Going back to Rog's thread title:- If it wasn't for this virus I'd ... Not have spent a small fortune on my old bicycle. In my defence.... Boat bodging is at a standstill - mouse needs Vanguard slipping so I can fit his small fortune of stockpiled seacocks and associated hardware - not likely in the near future though. The house is almost completely done. I've got the front door to paint but need a good dry weekend for that so it can be left open while the paint cures. A couple of sundry jobs and we are there. Attention turned to the bike I've had for 17 years. Now the dwarf is riding a proper bike I thought I'd give mine some love. It's an old Univega - a reasonable quality bit of kit in its day - I used to do 60+ miles a week keeping fit for racing On Any Sunday, along with dragging it to most meetings to ride the course/clear up at the end of a meeting. Lately it's done mostly family trail riding - including dragging Lucy around for 180 miles on a Trailgator - god only knows how many miles has passed under its wheels over the 17 years I've had it. It was starting to show its age though, poor shifting through the gears along with occasionally losing the chain off the freewheel or chain wheels. Initially I thought I'd just change the shifter cables as these make a huge difference. Better but not perfect. A good amount of looking revealed teeth on all the sprockets in the drivetrain are about knackered, along with the derailures and chain. Pulling the crank showed the bottom bracket cartridge to be past its best A few taps on Amazon yields a complete new groupset and chain. Click click clickerty click and job is a good in. Unfortunately one of the sellers let me down on the crank - 2 weeks at least before they get in stock. Ok, cancelled the order and look elsewhere. While I had a few minutes spare I thought I'd true up the front and rear wheels, umm, no, the nipple's have seized meaning it can't be trued - the rims are a bit thin anyway.... Back to the net and I come across a too cheap to be true set of wheels, the correct crank and a nice set of Shimano brake cables. A few clicks and they are on their way. I dare not add up the total spent - my only justification is the amount I've spent would have got a crappy low end bike from Halfords with the cheapest of the cheap Shimano groupset. I've got my old friend that has covered so many miles reinvigorated with decent kit at a reasonable price. As a bonus it's keeping me occupied playing with oily bits while I can't get at the boats. Mrs Gazza is beginning to wonder if she is going to become a cycling widow - I have assured her it's only a temporary distraction while boating is on hold!
