On Friday Sam and I went to Brinklow Castle. We climbed the tump and there, right at the top was a discarded McDonalds drink cup. Sam said "Blimey, McDonalds has only been open a day". Then, on a bench/ table combo in the bailey were two empty Red Bull cans and an empty can of Pepsi. We collected the lot and put it in the bin which was right outside the gate and which the earlier visitors must have walked right past on the way in. I just can't understand the mentality of visiting an ancient monument and leaving litter all over it. I'm sure people do it not because they don't realise that it is wrong, but they know it is wrong and there's some misguided attitude of "no-one tells me what to do" going on. Well done you two. So very sad x They just DON'T think - no-one tells me what to do - but... "I know better". Time we all started thinking for ourselves again?

Well done for cleaning up the litter, it’s just that I thought Rog was the forums virtue signaller. I had you down as the opposite, hang on I need to sit down again. I think I’m still in shock.

We don't disagree then @blacksheep ... littering isn't a positive act of defilement, more lack of any thought at all. Unfashionable as it may be, I have to blame parents. There were seven of us kids, and we were taught not to litter, and actually encouraged to pick litter up ... it was a competetive game. Perhaps that is not instilled enough. Rog A lot of things can be blamed on so called parents the selfish generation, me me me is being taught to the kids by parents many of whom are still kids themselves. My case was my scout leaders. I always remember as a scout/venture that even on a mountain in the middle of nowhere we don't even leave a cig but and we take them home, something I always still do wherever I am. Well not always home but in a bin normally.

On Friday Sam and I went to Brinklow Castle. We climbed the tump I watched this a few times just over 5 years ago, and in June 2015 we did indeed stop in Brinklow and walk to the top of the castle mound. Canal boats can be spotted, and at 0:33 a train enters the scene top tight - you may be chuffed to see that?

I'm coming up 64 (will you still love me ?) and when I find myself outdoors with an empty can or wrapper, my sainted old Mum and Dad are never closer to me ... they're in my head ... I cannot thoughtlessly discard it. I must have been indoctrinated never mind taught by my parents ... I could no more discard litter than ... well you get the idea I have therefore considered that the few litter louts responsible, must have had a less fortunate upbringing than I ...as a consequence they now exercise a total disregard of, and lack of respect for the environment and their fellow citizens. Well done Mr Stabby for clearing up ... but I know your post was intended to express exasperation, rather than signalling virtue. Rog

Who was it said "where there's muck there's brass". It's true in the case of disposable packaging.
