Same here Mark..I've liked the post as a sign of support for you... If I could I'd have rocked up with bolt cutters(still stored under stairs) and gone ahead..not sure what I'd have needed to cut though..but thoughts there We are all with you in spirit....

Well - I've been awake most of the night doing what ocd planners do when things are beyond they're control - catastrophising of course ... it was either worry OR the GALE force winds and rains battering the boat... winds and rains that look to continue for most of today's first mamouth leg, that were keeping me awake.
Anyway - I gave in at 4 am and have been looking at extra routes for next year since then... perhaps on a canal with some water and better maintained - you know... the M1 springs to mind!
I am going to bear a grudge against CRT over this.
ALSO - in idiot fashion, having spent 2 ten pound notes yesterday, I realise now I'm gonna have to over pay the good chaps helping me today by a tenner each - which I suppose, given the awful weather, if they turn up, they'll bloody deserve it.
I shall report back where we end up tonight - if it's at the top of Barrowford, suffice to say, I'll have failed the mission and be spending the next 3 weeks stuck at the top of wigan.

"Mork calling Orson - come in Orson"... HERE we are... Rishton (well as good as)... DESPITE the horrendous wind and rain, we have made sterling progress - only down the prop 2 dozen or so times, scraped a bit of paint off here and there and even filled up with water (clambering over a boat that had luckily become trapped right on a water point because of illness) Serioulsy, - Credit where credit is due..... Adam (trip boat) and younger Adam (Pennine) BOTH turned up as promised to help get us up and away at the early 8am concession CRT had given me... AND the lockies stayed (in fact, relayed) to help get us from Gargrave Bottom to the top of Bank newton before half 10. The wind and rain remained with us all day but young Adam carried on with the trip to the bottom barrowford (following from entering foulridge JUST as the light changed to red but were committed - that got awkard with a prop foul towards the other end but we emerged as another boat literally began it's approach ... The slog from Barrowford to here has been a bit hard work with the usual rubbish in the canal and burnley embankment was a pig - no matter... I've cleaned the prop ready for morning and we'll be at Blackburn locks when they open ready for the 2nd phase to get to Wigan for a later tea (early supper)... Bed is calling . Thanks for the good wishes - I'm still sulking about it as it COULD have been avoided but we are where we are and I can almost SMELL the chips on wigan pier lol

Glad you have had a successful day, you will be able to dine out on this story for years to come! I have been thinking of you on and off all day. In less fraught times I would have picked up Patty and we would have done a Thelma and Louise trip to help (or probably hinder). Well done to your helpers, adversity always shows us who the good guys are.

That's fantastic Mark.you do realise that you are my excitement for the next few days ! Xx I Don't think a 'woman' has EVER said that to me... quite honoured lol. I'm just having a cuppa (5.20am) and will set off to chug to the top of blackburn locks - bosun still in bed but as there aren't any swing bridges, don't see why both of us need to be up and miserable. I HAVE received a nice message from the other side, with an offer of help working down blackburn and possibly johnsons too - so when I get to the top, I'll drop him a message to see if it's still available. weather so far - "quiet" BACK, rather playing up but I've still anther bottle of oramorph in reserve. WIGAN top, here we come!
