well it's a given... ALL gingers are superheros - that's why old geezers using "just for men" are jealous... it's a cross we have to bear lol.
Seriously though - WE only made it through because of the help from other boaters/friends and briefly hired hands ... 1 other boat made it across the other way too with far less help (although more boating experience than us)... and if CRT (both sides) had "stuck" to the listed opening times of 10 am rather than a day at 8 (for us) and 9 elsewhere, it might have been seriously different.
The blokes on the ground are a good bunch
The overheating boat btw, cooled down during it's "rest" and chugged on again into the sunset last night - a 21 year old lad helping his MUM (who'd bought the project on a whim) ... you couldn't help but fall in love with both of them.
Today is sunny so rather than just sit here and fester, I think once David gets up, we'll press on and enjoy moving in the sunshine again... perhaps Worsley tonight and then spend a couple of days in Stretford.
Have the welsh opened up yet? - I'm wondering if we make an attempt for LLangollen in the hope booked folks might decide to join our bubble?

Officially Wales not open to visitors ... but any number can meet outside at safe distances, and they ask you stay within five miles of home ... which a live aboard boater would. We decided to turn back just prior to Chirk, but four boats travelling up with us carried on to Llangollen and encountered no problems. There's quite a few private boats heading up now, taking advantage of this period without hire boats, and it is amazingly quiet. Shops can open from today, and the suggestion is that Wales will be opening up in early July. Enjoy your freedom quaysider ... and for goodness sake ... don't break anymore canals Rog

Wales still not opening non-essential shops, only supposed to travel up to 5 miles. Re travel, there are lots flouting this, donβt see many being fined for it.

The intnetion WAS to spend a couple of days at Pennington Flash to recover but yesterday was SUCH a lovely morning and we have just spent 12 weeks NOT mooving, I thought we'd plog on - in truth, the boat we towed is only able to run for about 30 mins on tick over before overheaating and is heading to the Staffs and Worcs... (a long journey at that pace) so oart of my thinking was to balance out the good karma that'd come our way in the last few days by towing them on and off to help them along their way.
They had a mechanic take a look at it in Boothstown (and used their facilities there) before chuggin on again. We stopped At Worsley in the biggest thunderstorm I've seen and when it eased, carried on... only to find them broken down again around the next corner lol.
Paired them along side again and then towed them for a couple of hours to waters meeting -they turned right and we turned left to head in to Manchester for a night - perhaps stupidly we fancied going up the Rohdale 9 and were going to tied up in Telford basin before coming back down again this morning... CRT had other ideas and the flight was locks - WHEN I looked on line, a "stoppage" occurred at 15.59 lol... silly me.
Dogless definitely has a point... IF I plan to cruise on it... it's probably going to be shut!
Anyway - a night in Castlefield basin instead and then chug on to Stretford marina this morning for electric. I Think we may spend a couple of nights there so as to get the new fridge freezer delieverd and hire a car to collect my post from home.
AFTER that, we'll probably catch up with the limping boat around Lymm and town them some more...THAT's IF the horse flies dont kill me first... 3 bites now... EVIL things..

Just read your blog quaysider ... excellent as always but ... the cake ! Where did you get that cake ... it looks fabulous Rog lol - it's an S & M Rainbow cake that my dear friends Richard and Stuart brought with them to Skipton to say "Bon Voyage"...it came with a load of candles but the fire-risk was too great given the 'drought'... each layer does taste different... it's lovely... I'm not one for cake generally but I have enojoyed this one.
