A bit of research and it becomes clear that we are getting sillier by the minute: “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot”, celebrating the Underground Railway, written *AFTER* the Civil War by a freed slave, made popular by the African American Fisk Jubilee Singers, sung at many black funerals and rights demonstrations.

Can't dismiss the irony though, middle class metropolitan social liberal rugby watching toffs, the cornerstone of 'black lives matter', admonishing themselves over the racist songs they themselves sing.

I was introduced to the the rugby song 'Swing low' in the early 1970's when I played ... it had nothing to do with spiritualism but was an audience participation song with obscene gestures to accompany the words.
Rather like the Welsh RFU being asked to stop playing 'Delilah' before matches (as it allegedly glorifies domestic abuse) I suspect the crowds will decided if it is to be sung or not.
It is pitiful that such an important single issue should once again be diverted, diluted and distracted by attendant nonsense.

It's all ammunition for the other side, who will use it in an attempt to promote racism. If all this crap continues, that will not be a difficult task.

I I fell sorry for the parents and grand parents of the idiots because they are the ones likely to die from this, of course this will incense the idiots because more BAME are dying from the virus....................you couldnt make it up Have you been following me and eavesdropping peterboat?!!!!? That's what I mutter every time (yet another) idiot pushes past me within an inch in the stupidmartket after queuing for an hour to get in there - you're fine, you're young and fit and (I KNOW, GOD, DO I KNOW) you have a life to live - but you're taking this home to your grandparents ..... ..... but then again, some of the grandparents should and do know better - one silly old sod in his seventies, bemasked and therefore - in his mind - immune pushed his hand so close to my face in the fridge at Morrisons that I could (and, in hindsight) should have bitten his finger!!! Keep safe, well and sane. met x

You take care, too, Patty.
Just seems so sad that while everyone seems to think they're "caring" with their rainbows and clapping, nothing much changes really x

The "clap for carers" was a load of bollocks. Ok maybe the first one was a nice gesture but the rest were just embarrassing. The woman, kids and myself never made any noise at all during these events. It just seemed wrong. Surrounded by people making noise but no thanks very much. Nobody holds a gun to someone's head and says "be a nurse". YES it is nice that people do it yes it would be good to have more funding for the NHS this is not arguable but they are not demigods I would wish for better outcomes than "clap" for the carers. www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=2743

As for the clap, I don't know, sheathed up, the responsibility comes with the anarchy.

Looks as though it's all about to kick off in London again today. How the f do we expect to all live on a small island when there is a tiny, insidious faction of nuts that are censoring our media, tearing down statues, are perpetually offended and, shouting at cereal!?!

The only solution is to move to areas of lower population and a more traditional ethnic mix. White flight.

So now the *swing high swing low* rugby anthem is possibly going to be banned. Where I had no ill feeling towards others before, I find myself slowly becoming increasingly concerned about the subject matter. Time out needs to be called, and sensible discussion about the issues are needed. The UK is all about equal opportunities, hence the reason so many attempt to live here. Don't come here if you are against our culture. Our history is not where we are now, but could be revisited if we continue to follow this present course. I'm sure I'm not the only one getting a bit pissed off with the whole thing. What exactly do you mean by that statement?

"Footballers are not generally known for their intellect, but I don’t think it requires much in the brainbox department to realise there is a nasty aspect to the BLM movement. With that said, I seriously doubt ALL footballers agree with everything BLM stands for and condones. So the question is, why are ALL footballers showing public support for BLM? Why isn’t the player’s union sticking up for those players who would prefer not to ‘take a knee’ or wear shirts with BLM written on them? Seems to me the players are either thick, living under a dictatorship or both. Has anyone seen an interview with any players recently who have clearly stated they are against racism and discrimination, but also against violence directed at the police and public at large? Not to mention the looting and criminal damage. Thought not."
