Aplogies if aready posted elsewhere.
Statement from Canal and River Trust:
"In line with the latest government advice for England issued today (23rd June 2020), we are pleased to say that from Saturday 4th July 2020 all boaters can stay overnight on their boats and take extended cruises. Holiday hire boat companies will also be able to freely operate, taking precautions around safe practice, such as extra cleaning.
"This means the waterways in England will be fully open from 4th July for boating, angling and paddle sports. Our towpaths remain open for people to enjoy exercise and being in the outdoors, close to nature.
"In Wales, the restrictions on staying local will be lifted on 6th July, if conditions allow. A range of options for the reopening of self-contained holiday accommodation, such as boats, will be considered in a review on 9th July.
"You can enjoy the canals while following the updated advice around social distancing, keeping at least one metre from both other people and moored boats where people may be living aboard.
"When on the towpath, please move aside to allow others to pass safely, using the full width of the path. If you are a cyclist, please remember that pedestrians always have priority, so take it steady and be ready to slow down to give way to others, including those by their boats or fishing. You may want to consider using an alternative route away from the towpath for your exercise if you want to avoid other people."

Which reminds me ... I've recently complained (again ... two years after the first) to C&RT about the removal of the elsan at the top of Hurleston locks.
They 'reassured me' two years ago it would be re sited ... but still not happened so there's no elsan between Nantwich, Calverley and Grindley Brook.
Only had an acknowledgement so far ... we'll see.

Rog But is Calverley open? I have repeatedly asked and never got a satisfactory reply. Last time I went it was all locked up and deserted.

"from Saturday 4th July 2020 all boaters can stay overnight on their boats and take extended cruises." Latest what I gather now is that the Finland-Norway border was re-opened to tourists last Mon 15th June, with no border checks nor quarantine on either side. Also Norway-Denmark border open. Sweden still firmly on the 'No thank you' list for the other Scandinavian countries - no matter what some think, those 'in control' deem the coronavirus to be out of control in Sweden, so Swedes are not allowed to go on the rampage outside their own country. Also UK-Finland border still 'closed' for tourism - review of situation 14th July. Sweden - red alert for Covid-19!

The Finnish Government and Border Guards say travel to-fro UK-Finland is OK for 'essential stuff' - but not yet tourism. From all I have read, I'd say 14th July might be a date for something to happen. Although now with coronavirus rising again in many countries in Europe it may be that everything will be clamped down again. I should like to visit our boat and make a trip, but for now all should be OK as the engine has been run, it has been newly blacked, and should be fine to sit where it is. It's impossible for me to make any plans as regards the UK/boating for now - but we could nip up to northern Norway now we have this chance. We could drive at night just for fun - it's daylight all night but people do go to sleep so the roads would be empty.
