On second look (Prolly not as looking at it it seems to be in a narrow boat!!) L3 means 3 litres per cylinder so its a 12 litre lump. I think the dutch barge I mentioned has a 4LW not an L3 as it has two castings for the heads rather than 4 individual ones like the L2 and L3 units. I'm pretty sure that is a picture of the engine in a 1934 wooden MFV that he used to own I wondered about that yes - your probably right.

It was in my old 1934 MFV fitted in 1945 after it was released by the admiralty following its war work back to the fishing industry
