I must be getting old because I can remember the days when you could buy a house for that money.

The problem with most of the trad engines is getting spares. My mate gave up with his Kelvin because spares were pretty much non existent.
RN are just about hanging in there with pretty much a one man show. He'll still make you a new engine (about 21K) or refurb an old DM2 for about 12K.
If you are paying that much, why not have a bit of bling?

I doubt it sells for £18000 but yea incredible the prices twin cylinder marine engines of any quality go for. The good thing is, it's fully reconditioned so will probably outlast any of us.

Much better to keep the oily grubby bits out of sight IMHO unless of course you have a boat big enough that it doesn't really matter.

But if you have a thing of beauty as in the opening post then the last thing you want to do is hide it away.

In the foreground is the 8 litre 6 cyl lump in Sabina ........ it might not be a "pretty" engine but it's a heck of a lot more powerful and brand new cost a heck of a lot less than that diddy little thing SAM_0173 by mudlarker2, on Flickr

In my opinion though it would look better with a six cylinder Gardner sat there. But that's just my opinion.
