Had anyone seen one?
There are supposed to be a few about and Ted who built my boat Dulcinea constructed one apparently.
It's a long shot but I'd love to locate it.
I believe he did the fabrication works at Fox's in Cambridgeshire.

bump above the troll
I'm not up to scratch with it but doesn't stainless steel have a corrosion problem when only partly covered in water ? Crevice corrosion sort of rings a bell

Yes there is a problem definitely.
Specially around welds. The welds want to be perfect.
Still interesting though if someone has gone to the trouble to actually do it.
I seem to remember it being discussed on canalworld at some point and one was on eBay at one stage.

I've done a bit of detective work and I reckon it is "Mithril". 43ft narrow boat.
Lines up with the naming of Dulcinea as it is another character from literature.
Boat list has it as a "Home made craft".

No because I don't know if it is indeed that boat and don't know where it is. I would have to see it or at least a picture.

Check around boats with a magnet, you will find it eventually after you discount all the plastic ones. No good to you, you will not be attracted to it. I suspect that there is a brittle fracture of welds problem as well as cavity corrosion in the welds. Not easy without big expense and gear to weld stainless steel, depends a lot on the grade and composition too.

I've always assumed it is basically not feasible or sensible but if it's been done I would be interested to see it.
I tend to think the general knocking and crashing a narrow boat usually gets would be problematic.

Most catalysts and DPFs on cars/lorries are stainless and have no issues far outlasting the rest of the exhaust, I have a friend that manufactures in stainless and in reality its very durable considering the hammer exhausts take. [they make exhaust manifolds for retro fiting turbos to performance cars]

Exhausts do of course dry out and get hot. They are small can constructions.
Bit different for a boat hull sat in water of unknown acidity, pollution, subject to cold and flexing.

I’ve just seen an aluminium narrowboat go past does that count?

No because they were series produced vessels. I'm talking about a one-off.
There is a chance it is "Mithril" that I need to locate. Quite interesting that it is 43ft long.
Having traveled extensively in narrow boats from 32ft to 72ft I have to say that my ideal size would be 40-45ft. Big enough to have some room but small enough to be light and economical to run.
I'd like to find this Mithril if possible or a picture of it.
I just think if he did another boat it's going to be something special.
The toy trawler and a 43ft stainless narrow boat would be my two perfect boats allowing travel everywhere in one or the other.
That would be excellent.

By the way 'Mithril ' isn't a character from literature ... it's a precious metal from literature (LotR). You're welcome Rog ETA 'Dulcinea' is a much better name.
