Boaters being boaters ... don't see a problem at the correct time of day. Rog I wish I'd made the effort to drag the 'Onda out - forget the noise issue, it's like Apollo 13 on here with the crap Chinese looky likey 1000w monstrosity, I have to remember to turn the fridge and sometimes the battery charger off if I want toast or to boil a kettle while the Genny is on. The Honda takes it all on its stride, I remember why I brought the damn thing now! peterboat - we didn't manage a day relying on solar 😵 that said I refuse to cover the boat in panels and it's unusual for us to travel so short a distance on our first day....

We don't do tv or other electrical gadgets but the fridge is the only ongoing electric drain ... a dictatorship really.
It's entirely possible, as you've demonstrated, to be considerate of others whilst still using the engine or genny when required.
Cruising is always my preferred method of charging and heating water ... but like today when we're staying put I run the engine at a reasonable hour, considering others as much as possible.
I am content to let others manage their needs without input from me ... to be honest, even when it's out of hours.

Lack of consideration for others is an irritating issue ... whether it involves boat engines, motor bikes on towpaths or dogs yapping or dumping. Rog Or nicking their boat.

I stumbled upon your duplicate post on CWDF Clinton Cool ... all polite and obsequious ... yet on here it's 'knobheads'. Demanding consideration from others whilst demonstrating a lack of any consideration yourself. Was that deliberate ... or is your concern purely that you receive consideration ? Rog It's more simple than that. Over there you got warned and ultimately banned for suggesting that people who behave in a particular way are knobheads. Here: we are free to speak the truth.

Shouldn't you be at work, slaving away, righting the economy with the honest sweat of your brow and exercising your protestant work ethic ! Rog ETA Those hair products won't pay for themselves

No solar worth talking about today, fired the webasto up earlier this afternoon, everyone is scrubbed up and ship shape. Genny is now singing its heart out for battery charging and a couple of episodes of Idiot abroad, we are on the move tomorrow. For various different reasons the 'Onda is in the garage meaning the nasty old Clarke 1000g is on a bit of electrical string as far downwind as it can possibly be. Will shut the infernal thing off in about 45 mins 👍 I can hear the genny from here A scruffy narrowboats is in front (and upwind...) of us, to the side of us a Cruiser in the Marina (again in front and upwind...) Can't see any smart boats about at all, I take it you are at Tol's place?

I was curious how a single boat engine can cause you so much anxiety ... last I saw your boat you were moored in the noisiest mooring imaginable at Middlewich and surviving for quite some time there ? To be fair to the bloke running his engine last night he came over while I was doing a bit of work on the boat and apologised. We had a good old chat. Two things he said shocked me: he told me he'd lived aboard for 20 years but had never heard that engines shouldn't be run after 8.00 p.m. Wow, that's amazing. He also believed that running his engine for 2 and a half hours each day was sufficient to power his fridge and his 42 inch t.v., run via an inverter. The final thing he told me didn't surprise me at all: he's just replaced his batteries.

Ricco has always maintained he wheels his bike to his boat or do you assume he guns it down the towpath.

We were moored by Hartshill yard on the Coventry some years ago when a guy knocked on our boat at 10.20pm and said he'd just got home from a 12 hour shift and would we mind if he ran his engine for an hour before he went to bed. What can you say ... wasn't significantly going to disturb us ... and I'm sure he wouldn't have asked if he wasn't genuine. I never find engine's disturbing ... they tend to send me to sleep Rog

I assumed (obviously wrongly) that as I'm the butt of everyone's jokes about wife beating and boat stealing, I am entitled to reciprocate. It's good that you occasionally post here ... even if chastising me seems to be the only motivation. Still the best avatars @chagall1984 Rog

I had something similar and when I looked, the boat he pointed at was about 200 yards away. I wondered afterwards if it was just a ruse to find out if anyone was aboard as a precursor to breaking in.

If its anywhere near as good as others I have seen from there it will be very smart.
