cart don’t really have that many big open areas like scafell pike. I’m sure you’ll find a bin in the car park or near picnic areas etc. Which is more than cart do. Personally I don’t think it’s okay for all the cyclists and ramblers to have to pee in the hedge along the towpath. They don’t even have toilets for the general public at tourist hot spots like bingley five rise. they don't but they have long distance footpaths, ive never come across a trail with bins or toilets. there are very good reasons we don't put bins in the country side Animal's will just empty them out daily, you should see the mess seagulls make around here. Even the seagull proof bins are not safe. Who will empty them all on a daily basis? They can't even look after the facilities they do provide. In urban areas there is normally facilities available nearby and if there isn't why should it be CRT's responsibility to install them. Not being able to manage emptying them is not an excuse for not providing them. I’m not talking about putting them in the middle of no where. But as of the moment cart don’t provide any. Now I wonder why boaters bins are always full.

It’s a difficult balance. On the one hand, if one can move aside for cyclists and runners with zero effort, why not? There is no virtue in blocking the towpath just to make a point. On the other hand, some cyclists do ride furiously and rely on people jumping out of the way or else there will be a collision. It would be nice if people could respect other people’s needs in a “share nicely” sort of way, but it ain’t gonna happen! I'm not talking about deliberately blocking people. I did mention that in my post. I think walkers should behave as if the cyclists don't exist and let the cyclists find their way or use an alternative route if their aim is rapid transit. It's simple really. Just be deaf. Quite right. The cyclists should wait for the pedestrians to pass.

On a slightly different note, the first time I realised there WERE boaters' bins at Weedon (down 27 steps!!) I was amazed to see they were on the main road and resplendently displayed alongside one of the two skips was a complete 3 piece bathroom suite in a delightful shade of peach (yes - toilet, bath and basin). 27 steep steps for a boater - just off the A5 in your van - no enclosure, no lock...
