" Wales arenβt even waiting until January, just announced all non-essential retail in Wales and close contact services like hairdressers and nail bars, leisure and fitness centres must close at the end of trading on Christmas Eve Also after the relaxation period for household mixing between 23-27 December, Wales will go into a level four lockdown on 28 December where "tighter restrictions for household mixing, staying at home, holiday accommodation and travel will apply". I still don't know anyone who has died of Covid-19 and neither does anyone I know. Apart from the fact that any and all avenues of pleasure have been closed, my life and job continue as ever they have.Β The whole thing is a gigantic lie, and more and more people are waking up to it every day. I'm glad you don't know of anybody being effected by Covid 19, I wish that was true in my case despite living in an isolated Fenland village but hey sure you will be OK Phil

While that is unfortunate for you, fewer than 1 in 1,000 of the population have died with coronavirus, the overwhelming majority of whom were in their eighties, therefore most people would be unlikely to know anybody who had died with it.

I understand the government have advised against people shopping on Boxing Day. We're both working 3pm x 8pm ... if the shops are open some people will come for sure. "If you build it, they will come."

The virus is real, deadly but there will always be those who deny its existence ..up to them. As long as their beliefs do not compromise the safety of others they can just get on with it.
I have people I working with and family caring in the front line..seeing the acutely ill day after day... I chose to listen and believe their words... I do feel those who deny cannot face reality...

Trouble is, Patty, that for every 7 people testing positive only one has symptoms, according to research. So those who deny that it is a danger may well be endangering others because they don't believe they have it themselves.
Some/many of those so-called deniers (stockings?), or should it be denyers, are maybe committing manslaughter by passing on a potentially fatal virus to vulnerable people.
We can only get through this by all pulling in the same direction. Presently it is a bit like a rowing eight turning in the middle of a river - those on the left are rowing forwards while those on the right are rowing in reverse.

Another way you can look at it is that out of the 67 million of us who have put up with loss of our freedoms, lost jobs, lost homes, not being able to see loved ones, 58 million of us wouldn't suffer if we caught Covid 19. I really don't see why our government are driving these measures anymore (well I do, it's because there are other agendas at work). If people feel vulnerable then stay at home, wear a mask, keep away from people. Take reponsibility for yourself. My mum (100) and Chris's mum (93) are happy to take the risk to see us, but our government says no. Something is very wrong.

Yep, hundreds of thousands of livelihoods have been destroyed, the BBC are reporting today that 4.4 million few medical scans were performed this year compared to 2019 which will lead to God alone knows how many deaths from undiagnosed illnesses but perhaps most bizarrely the Government seem to presume they can control who we meet in our own homes.

I was looking at the NHS stats for overnight hospital bed occupancy capacity. If I have read the spreadsheets correctly, up to September this year (2nd quarter) the number of overnight beds occupied for general and acute patients is far less than it was for the last 5 years over the same period. www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/bed-availability-and-occupancy/bed-data-overnight/

one of the problems of trying to use statistics to point to "Fewer cases than expected" "all that extra capacity was a waste" "there was no problem it's all a conspiricy" is about of a population whose behaviours have been greatly modified to reduce the effect on the NHS.
Maybe we need to look elsewhere ..... Yesterday I posted a report from Aljazeera tv about US hospitals .... those who didn't watch it really should .... I'm sure there are some on here will just say it's governments forcing news people to say what they want them to say ..... however that news organisation has several people in jail round the world for telling the truth (or if you insist, what they beieve to be the truth)

clearly there are a few shouters on this forum who deny that restrictions are necessary.
what do they suggest the NHS should do? attempt to treat everyone who needs diagnosis or treatment for cancer and other life limiting conditions?
- perhaps those shouters could tell us how the NHS staff should protect themselves and others from Covid.
- perhaps those shouters and deniers should volunteer to work on the wards to care for Covid patients so the regular NHS staff are less exposed and will still be here next year to treat us when we need them. - perhaps those shouters should revisit the pictures of bulldozers burying bodies in mass graves in New York earlier this year.
if the cap fits then wear it - the cap badge should read "I don't give a fuck about anyone else, I'm alright jack".

... a coxless crew ? Sadly, you are probably so right. Sorry - I couldn't resist as I WAS an oarswoman (bowman in a coxed four) many years ago. Hope we can all keep safe, well and as sane as we can x
