So then (brushing past love lycos or whatever that was) Today is "offical weight's and measures day... I'm not doing INCHES - (no comment required mr stabby) Started at 14.2 5/8ths 1 week on 13.7 2/8ths Weight loss = circa 9 lbs (to save buggering about with fractions) Muscle was: 42.3 % at the start - now 43.1 % Fat was: 22% now 20.6% Water remains the same at 58% despite drinking (well it feels like it) half the Caspian sea) Another update will follow next Friday ... not that anyone cares but public humiliation can be very motivating when I want a sausage roll and can of beer

I always found the first week to be easy, drop a good chunk off by stopping the carbs and beer.
Second week is a killer for me, I start missing the good stuff and the weight drop slows.
Maybe I should have a bit of speed, used to stop me eating back in the rave days!

Like MM my body doesn't retain fat. I'm just scoffing some Christmas cake and making mince pies later to go with the 1/2 lb of brandy butter I made yesterday. When one of my lanky kids was almost 6ft he weighed about 9 stone. My ex was always moaning about being tired so one day when she was moaning on I got her to pick him up and might have mentioned that was how much extra weight she'd gained since we met and carried around the whole time so it was no wonder she was knackered. Yes, I know, no wonder I'm (happily) divorced. I can put on muscle if I exercise but it gets harder to be arsed particularly with COVID stopping me camping and walking up mountains which was my chosen route.

Then I went to The peak district for a week and walked up around and down Kinder scout every other day. The first time I thought there was a fair chance I would die! I had to stop many times on the way up to recover. By the end of a week I was resting a couple of times, jogging along the top and down via a rocky stream. Every footfall is different, muscles you forgot you had etc etc. I'm not scientific but I measure my calf muscles with finger and thumbs both hands and they grew almost 2". I also grow thighs and an arse of course. That lasts as well. I try and do similar 2 or three times a year now because it's about 100x as effective for your legs, heart and lungs as walking along the towpath no matter how fast I go.

I don't know about 'more effective' ... rather just different. I have cycled, run, walked, played team sports, tennis, badminton and squash and all use slightly different muscles in different ways. I always think walking is more of a mental exercise, whilst encouraging overall physical fitness ... moorland walking is much more demanding but without having the mental strength to push on, one wouldn't achieve the physical gains. When I was working, during lunch breaks I tried running indoors on a treadmill. I'm sure it benefitted me but there is no doubt it was a very different exercise to actually running outside, propelling oneself along. And any exercise is better than no exercise Rog

I notice when I vary my routes to include hills/steps - even just up and down from the canal, it makes a difference to my breathing (and alleged) calorie burn. Today I went a different route and only managed 8 miles (it was drizzling) but included a fews ups and downs so the cals were close to 1000 according to 'map my walk' - it is boring though. Still, I'm back now, working on 2022 routes for the website again and for tea we're having half a peking duck for a change... enjoying proteins and fats over sugar carbs is fine.
Oddly, I still don't crave any booze which normally by now, I'm gagging for.
My goal for the next 7 days is only to shift 3-maybe 4 1lbs but I DO want to get to 1 stone by the end of week 3.

Problem I have found with losing weight quickly is that it comes back on quickly. What I believe is needed is a gradual loss of weight and a change in lifestyle to maintain that weight once you are there. Oh goody it's Friday and I am allowed a glass of beer ðŧ tonight.ð

Oh goody it's Friday and I am allowed a glass of beer ðŧ tonight.ð For a lot of people that is the case I'm sure - Despite being a yo yo fatty, I AM able to maintain a desired weight without TOO much difficulty, although I'm certainly not saying it's easy... getting fat periodically is (almost) a conscious choice I suppose ... I simply CHOOSE to indulge in big portions and booze and fully know what is happening... life just sometimes dictates it as necessary. My trouble (in regards dieting) is that I don't have the patience to do it slowly... I want my clothes to fit NOW and once there, can adapt my calorie intake to maintain a stable weight... until the next time I feel like "giving up" again. It's probably not good for my health but I DO have more of a will to spend 2021 lighter and healthier than the last couple of years... a lot of things challenged me emotionally during 2019 & 20 - oddly, (despite a sad anniversary coming up AND having weaned off my anti-depressants over the last couple of months), I'm quite chipper for the time of year... winter blues HERE but not as bad as I was expecting... maybe diet and exercise are giving me those endorphins we all need.

And any exercise is better than no exercise Rog I couldn't force myself through that in a gym and have never been attracted to sport unless you count pool in the pub... but going up a hill - I'm heading for the top while cursing my lack of fitness, I can't give up as I've only just started. I can stop and look back though and see how far i've come (up hill) and admire the view while my legs stop shaking. Once on the top I have a sense of achievement, suddenly gravity is back to normal, I feel strong, peace and quiet and then I don't have much choice, I can't just stop and have a shower or turn back so soon. Thusly I find it a quick way to build a lot of muscles in a "real" way that 100's of miles of milder exercise never does (for me).

I'm similar with stomach presses. 10 with the right hand, ten with the left but unsure how hard I am supposed to press.
A light touch usually does it.

Oh goody it's Friday and I am allowed a glass of beer ðŧ tonight.ð I think that is the answer... these crash diets don't seen to produce long term weight loss lifestyles. Still each to their own ATM our lives are so different due to Covid we must do whats right for us. I'm gonna weigh myself next the day i get the vaccine Then I'll suss out whether to diet(probably) or carry on... Then I see my life may change and just maybe i can get out there.... I brought that car and i rarely use it....
