Yes. The boat I was certain was going to be scrapped. I still think it might well be scrapped and unsure as to what the motives behind it are. There must be nicer boats to spend shed loads of money on. Yes it's an interesting boat but seems to be too far gone including some unbelievably nasty modifications. kris said scrap too. about what, did I say what ?

I've never been "ok" but yes I am in a fairly normal state at the moment. If you mean my move to a slightly different user ID this is a requirement of my MI6 work. They don't like me making things up too much as it might look like I am actually a real person !

I do think that boat is sweet. i have been trying to read throught the page but i find it hard to get in to as its hard to navigate it. could just be me. still dam fine boat and hope it is saved fully.[/quote] As far as I can see there is nothing there or on their website. The only promising sign is a not that they haven't forgotten the volunteers but it seems they have currently stopped doing anything due to covid restrictions. Hopefully that changes soon, I do follow the page and will keep an eye on it.

It's had an amazing amount of alterations over the years.
The stern is very odd. I don't really understand what they did there but they did do it. I wonder if it was a bodge up to stop it sinking. It doesn't seem plausible that someone would add this stern for any other reason as it is just too ugly.
It could be to do with having a stern passerelle arrangement but there is no sign of hardware for this and I reckon you could do that while retaining a decent stern.
Maybe someone was clever at some point and noticed the stern was nackered or damaged and chose to preserve the boat itself at the expense of an incredibly nasty stern.
If that's the case and the money flows then it could end up being a good decision because if that boat goes back to being what it was like originally it would be a very nice result indeed.
I think it's scrap.

about what, did I say what ? The thread about the "155ft superyacht". Anything that size in private hands is scrap.

The thread about the "155ft superyacht". Anything that size in private hands is scrap. Some people have a lot of money. I think it's scrap all day long but it's funny what money can do. I also think the person who has bought it probably isn't especially wealthy. Yes he has a few quid but so what, it could easily eat into the second home and a new Merc budget. And he might even have to sell the 3 digit private number plate to pay for plating! Better to just buy a nice new boat and avoid the pitfalls me thinks.

The suggested reason for leaving it in place was because an out-of-season towage to Chatham would have been too hazardous.
I think they said it's got a load of holes in it which they put plywood over. It seems improbable that a tow to Chatham would be feasible at any time of year in that state.
If it does indeed have holes which were not immediately obvious when it was being righted it could be in much worse condition than anyone was expecting.
Of course classic superyachts do occasionally get rebuilt from very poor condition but it takes an awful lot of money and you need to have the original hull ideally. This one has a non original stem and a non original stern although apparently some of the original stern is still intact.
Also a lot of steel topside additions and coaming all of which would presumably have to come off.
Is it really worth it ?

I suppose in theory you could hire one of those immense submersible pontoons they have in the Netherlands and a pair of tugs ..... but the cost would be immense.

It's an interesting one to keep an eye on, certainly. The 42m Istros rebuild started off with just the hull which was transported as you suggested JohnV
