When I read the one about the Llangollen last night (and had a chat with a v lockie from up there) I nearly went up like a rocket.
To then stumble across the face book reference on my twitter feed, it sent me re-routing again.
If you can imagine a big ginger middle aged wrinkly puff throwing his amrs in the air and shouting "you win you incompetent barstweards" that would pretty much bring you up to speed with my life since the start of this change of lifestyle.
tbh - I feel like a taxi driver who's been forced to pay double road tax when the council have just dug up both ends of his road - stating well he can still operate short trips between either end so has to continue to pay the license fee only to be able to drive from number 1 to number 50 and back...
I'd already resigned us to having to go the long way IF they clear a channel at Anderton but if the Llangollen culvert is like the Audlem one or the Mac one, it's another month from when they start... effectively writing off the season again

Perhaps it is time for you to head Down South and ply up and down the Southern Oxford - easy access to Banbury and Oxford from London, plently of customers. You can also go down the Thames, along the Kennet & Avon, Rivers Lea and Stort, and back up the Grand Union to go round again? Could be worth a try? Southern Oxford is closed due to a lift bridge failure...

Haggis on the other channel confirmed the closure of Stanthorne (from the 19th) by phoning CRT.

Thank you - never got that notice. Pity those who've paid a couple of grand to do the Four Counties.... It's not out yet. The current one is from July last year, when CaRT are figuring out what to do about it, and instructing in use, like shut offside bottom gate first and use towpath bottom paddle first. Closure from Monday confirmed by phone call to CaRT. (We had been planning to visit the Llangollen ..... )

If you can imagine a big ginger middle aged wrinkly puff throwing his amrs in the air and shouting ... I've tried, but I'm struggling to get the mental image. And to be fair, I often imagine that a football with a painted face is actually talking to me- so I've got plenty of imagination

Shocked that if CRT know there will be a stoppage they haven't informed everyone so that we can all make alternative arrangements.

Stoppage notice finally received, thanks for the forewarning! The notice makes interesting reading but isn't as intriguing as the latest on the Llangollen :
"However, following feedback from customers and stakeholders and with the number of closures affecting travel across the North West, we have taken the decision to delay the installation of stop planks to allow passage through the affected area until the dams are in place. The stop planks are ready to be installed should the leakage deteriorate, and our teams will continue to carry out inspections to ensure passage is safe for our customers. However, should the problem deteriorate, we may be forced to close navigation before Monday."

Me wonders who the stakeholders are... Maybe just maybe CRT have got so bad that 'non-customers' are beginning to take an interest.
One can live in hope...
Or maybe the hire companies are the stakeholders...

We are supposedly the stakeholders. Typical crt confusion again. Did schooling decline after year 2000?

From my railway days - customers were the paying punters and stakeholders were the people/organisations/businesses who you had to give at least lip service to.

When travelling by any form of public transport, I consider myself to be a passenger, NOT a customer. A similar misuse of terminology is to be found in the supermarkets, I don’t work for any them thus I have no colleagues in them. For any enquiries I may have, I should be asked to consult a member of staff. Not a colleague.

Somethink needed to change and one of the main changes for passengers was bought about by getting front line staff to consider passengers as customers. The vagaries of human nature know no bounds.

I feel no benefits at all from the change of passenger to customer. Probably it was the work of senior management trying to bring a “business model “ to the sector.
