By the way don't believe everything you read on the internet.
There are a lot of odd people about and at least 62% of information is technically incorrect or simply made up.

Not quite. I wasn't thrown off anything. I got the cc notices on one of the boats and removed it to the Thames. It didn't go anywhere near being forcibly removed. And I am still 99% likely to be the largest contributor to the CRT coffers of anyone you will meet Don’t bother trying to explain Andrew, your particular bullshit doesn’t wash with me. None of that post was bullshit as it happens. All of it is verifiable fact. Loads of the other stuff is BS but that particular example is completely accurate. This year's payment to CRT from my bank account was approximately £11k. All to CRT no middle man.

What’s the point of having one of them? You’re not allowed to cut it yourself according to CRT. I would just cut the grass and bugger the consequences, the joy of the battery one is it's very quiet so no one notices 😁 The real problem here is that trees and larger plants will damage the bank's as they grow unchecked.

That's an interesting point about larger plants. If the buddleia gets in there... Or the Himalayan musk or one of those ones that patty likes what was it Japanese knotweed it could all get a bit technical.

Above Blisworth and below Stoke Bruene there used to be many places where saplings had taken root and bent the Armco out of shape, doubt it has been fixed.

I remember the giant hogweed in the park area below Hanwell flight. Very impressive plant that was.
I think it got dealt with eventually but presumably there is still some of this stuff around if an enterprising Berko local wants to get some seeds.
Isn't it.

Like you, I remember BWB's grass cutting ..... On the Stort it was particularly bad, you knew there was a lock landing (wooden, slippery) somewhere in the towering willow herb and tall grass but it was a test of iron nerve to hurl yourself through the thicket hoping that the landing was there and not a foot further along and that the bit you landed on was not rotten. Even more tedious was when the screening vegetation was composed mostly of stinging nettles.

Definitely do full width veg clearance around locks that's a no brainer but piled edges with long grass are just not a problem.
Maybe people object to the potential hazard of stepping in dog shit but if you choose to spend a lot of time living on a public footpath what do you expect?

Piled unmown edges are a problem as you never know what holes are there waiting to snap your ankle as you step off the boat. Added to that the damage that saplings do to the piled edge is just creating more matainance that will get ignored.

Yes I suppose on a nackered system it does cause longer term issues. I tend to look where I am going when getting off the boat but yes it is more awkward if it's overgrown.
I still disagree that you can't moor up though. Ok so it's a nuisance but it's not that bad is it.
The maintenance question is a slightly different topic but also a very good point. A lot more important overall than whether people can get off the boat without being hospitalised.
I believe that continued survival of the infrastructure is more important than continued survival of people on boats who needs special help to get on and off.
I do think partly due to TV programs there are quite a lot of people living on boats who maybe didn't quite think it through properly.
But that's another topic !

I wonder if people would prefer to pay more for their licenses in order to fund more vegetation clearance. It must be quite costly. I have even seen contractors mowing a towpath entirely surfaced with no plants anywhere. I think £2000 a mile is enough to be paying for the shit job they do.

So they can mow mud and snow in the winter, but not where it counts in the summer.
Sums them up really.

Way before the advent of the overstay rules being enforced and indeed anyone bothering too much about visitor moorings and the like, the most popular position was that most would happily put up with muddy towpaths and overgrown vegetation (which was the rule and not the exception) just so long as they would be left alone by official and non-official busybodies alike.
