Too tight to help your daughter out? Don't forget you owe @bfg 50p too. If you do remember the combination for your wallet, wear a mask, it will stop you breathing in moths.

Seems like the above three posters couldn't care much for the Hero Nurses of the NHS. Awarded Β£500 one moment and then having Β£460 taken away the next. Looks like the clapping has stopped too.

How do you know she was a nurse? Β Yes, could have been a cleaner or office staff. If youβre earning Β£25k or so even as a lowest grade nurse, why would you need to be on benefits?

There is some truth to the story, at least in Wales and Scotland (don't think England gave out the bonus).

It's not real money anyway. It's monopoly money, just printed up like those leaflets advertising services nobody wants that either end up scattered over the pavement, or in landfill. Soon to be worthless.

"NHS and care workers will lose some or all of their Β£500 bonus payment if they or their partners claim Universal Credit One NHS worker said it made her feel as though she didn't deserve the bonus, despite working hard throughout the pandemic"
One nursing assistant told Wales Online : "I didn't see my kids for six weeks at the start of the pandemic - not only did I sacrifice my time with them but I was also risking my life. This bonus is getting taxed at source so it's more than Β£200 less than the payment that's been given. "And now I could end up losing more of that because as I working single parent I claim some benefits. It feels like a massive slap in the face to be honest."

Ironic that in the past you have berated people for avoiding paying taxes, yet here you are attempting to make an issue out of a non story from months ago concerning correct stoppages procedures! π

I've also heard people complaining about the same thing when they receive the carers allowance.

I'm not sure some of these people have worked it out correctly and are just complaining for the sake of it.
For clarity not sure means I maybe wrong.
gov.uk seem to suggest that from 500 they would only lose 130 from the bonus. It says for every pound over their work allowance they would get or lose 67p of UC.
Its very complex but surely uc doesn't mean they have to have a fixed income.
I've had members of my team have issues with UC because of bonus and that once a year we get two payments in a calander month.
Although they know the rules of the scheme, should they be moaning about it. I'll support them in trying to get the rules changed but not if they just eat to whinge
I wonder how many NHS staff are on UC

Soon to be worthless. You're absolutely right. But it is a shame to have your wallet and piggy bank filled up with the useless stuff. But being such a nice chap I am quite happy to take the worthless stuff off your hands. Just send it to me in the post.

On the other hand NHS staff on over 50k can get it put into pension for little or no tax or NI cost.
